Drive Saver? Anyone have experience?

All;

Looking to see if anyone has some experience with a Drive Saver? This rubber-type flange mounts between the engine output flange and the shaft flange.

It is supposed to reduce harmonic vibration and compensate for micro-misalignment.

It's about an 1" thick.

Drive Saver

I have seen these installer in aluminum hulls to isolate the prop shaft from the drive train.these were factory installed. I would think you would have to cut the shaft to compensate for the thickness of the drive saver. there may be a clearance issue in the smaller boats when you move the flange back an inch.

I have this on two of my boats. On Moxie, my 1930 CC triple, it was installed after I hit a rock on the Tennessee River trip and bent the shaft at a 45 degree angle and broke the motor mounts on the engine. When I installed a 454 in my 25' Sportsman. it seemed like a good idea. So far it has been like good insurance (knock on wood) and has not been necessary.

In my current case the shaft I have is exactly 1" too short. When the hull was restored and the engine put back to factory the shaft ended up being short. I've wondered about the Drive Savers and thought for now I could try one and not have to buy a new shaft for the moment.

It's either that or buy a new shaft 1" longer :)

Just slice an inch out of the hull and glue it back together.
