Zenith 263 m carb

Post by trebot » Thu Jun 04, 2020 9:34 pm

Have idling problem on my '56 KL with a Zenith 263M carb. When motor is cold, she idles fine. Run on the lake for an hour or so, and she won't idle under 1500 rpm. The motor runs very cool, barely gets to 100 degrees. I've rebuilt the carb with no improvement. Get her home, start up and runs fine next morning. Any ideas?

Solved my idling problem.
I had adjusted the idle screw after engine ran for awhile, but before any load was put on motor. 1 turn out gave a nice smooth idle. Took her out today. After running for an hour or so on Lake Huron ( Gorgeous day), she would idle rough and would die when put in gear. Opened up idle screw to 1 1/8 turn. Idle sounded rich (engine loping). Put in gear, idle smoothed out with no stall.
I was ready to tear carb apart, but thought I'd try an easy fix and see what happened. Biggest problems often have simpliest solutions.
