Greetings,
What is your opinion of putting fiberglass over the bottom of a 1961 19 foot Chris Craft Continental? I'm suspecting this is not a good idea however the boat I'm considering buying had this done 30 years ago. Now it appears that several frame members have some rot in them and that means taking off the bottom to access them. Is this something you think can be done?
Thanks,
Scott

sounds like you may need a whole new bottom including all chines, frames, keel. etc. once the rot starts who knows where the spores are? often fiberglassing is a band aid that only promotes further rot. Should have it inspected by a seriously qualified restorer, alas.

If you are in the stage of "considering buying" I would recommend a very very deep analysis of your cost to restore this boat before you purchase it. The fewer surprises the better.

I second Troy's & Don's thoughts. Although some wood boat bottoms used in Lake Tahoe are professionally fiberglassed, this is done over very sound bottom planks and frames by people skilled in this. If it was weak to begin with, fiberglassing will make things worse.
