Distributor cap

Anyone have the NAPA (Echlin) part number for the KLC distributor cap and condenser? We haven't been able to match it up yet w/out having to order in samples.

If you have the number off the distributer, I'm sure someone here has a cross reference book.

It's the standard IAY-4009.

I have to get down to the boat tomorrow. I have some spares, some might be NAPA. My K’s have the same distributors. I’ll get some numbers if someone here doesn’t beat me to it.

Thanks!! We were able to find the points through a visual in their book but the caps are really hard to differentiate.

Keep in mind that there has been a "rash" of bad condensers over the last several years. They work out of the box, but not for the whole season. :(

I know some don't like but I have changed all mine to Pertronix ignition without any problems at all. :D

Those of us who collect and restore antique outboards are well aware of the condenser issues. There is a tremendous amount of junk out there and some of it carries old, reputable names. We are seeing imports that are out of specs and yet are being sold as direct replacements by dealers. The reason for the post regarding the cap is to try and find out what is making my engine run rough. Compression is perfect and consistent throughout all 6 cyls, carb is clean and float set, plugs replaced. Me thinks there may be cross fire or issues with the new wires.

"Start it in the dark and look for sparks."

Or if you're brave (well maybe foolish), start it up and run your hand along the ignition wires, coil and distributor with your other hand touching the engine block. If there's a high voltage leak, you will know it very well.
