Early Runabout Gauge Panel

Post by DeanS29 » Mon Dec 29, 2008 9:23 pm

Could someone tell me what year the triple cockpits went from a 3 gauge panel to a 5 gauge panel? I am specifically interested in the 24 footers if there was a difference. Thanks Dean

For the 24-foot runabout the 5-unit panel started on the 1930 models. It was used on the 26-footer beginning in 1927/28.

Is there much of a chance that a 5 gauge would have been put in a 24' runabout built in the later part of the 1929 model year? Hull card shows May inspection.

At that time period in the late 1920s/early 1930s the CC model years paralleled the calendar year very closely. Later in the 1930s this changed dramatically and followed the automotive industry model year schedule closely (late July-late July). So, your May boat was mid-year.

What is your hull number? A friend with #2329 replaced his original 3-unit grape leaf panel with a 5-unit. He still has the 3-unit available, I believe. Good original 5-unit grape leaf panels are worth their weight in gold.

Hi Dean,
Being that your boat is a midyear 1929 flat deck chances are pretty good that your boat came with a 3 hole. It has been my experience that finding an original 3 hole is harder than the 5.

I just saw a 3 gauge grape panel on eBay as recently as this morning. The auction has ended and it was on a "But it Now" for $1,500.00. Did not sell. Panel included the gauges as well.

The seller was "nutsforboats," who is, I believe, a member of ours. If anyone wants more info about the seller of this panel, contact me, and I will put you in touch with him.
