Bronze, stainless, chrome or steel. If you need information about the non-wood items on your Chris-Craft, pose your questions here.

HELLO ALL,

I HAVE A 1951 18FT. RIVIERA. THE GAS TANK IS ORIGINAL AND SEEMS TO BE SOLID,BUT IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY AT WHAT POINT SHOULD ONE CONSIDER INSTALLING A NEW TANK? THE SAD POINT IS THAT BEFORE ONE COULD NOTICE A PROBLEM WITH A LEAK  THERE COULD BE A DISASTER.

ALL COMMENTS WELCOME.

THANKS,

MIKE 51 RIV. LONG AGO

Rayco Manufacturing (they advertise in the Rudder) in Bradenton, FL will make you a new aluminum one for $300 or so. Keep the old one under your bed on a silk pillow in case the future owner wants to go back "original".

Rayco is at 941-751-3177. Jeff is very fair. He is presently fabricating two tanks for me at this time.

IMHO, Save the original if you can and use a product called POR-15 to coat the inside.  Works very well.

Thx

Mike,

Take the tank to a local radiator repair shop.  The can boil it clean to remove all of the sludge. They can also pressure test. I did that here in NJ. they also certified it.  Worked out great, $65 is all it cost.
