Custom Runabout stern lift ring removal/install
I am completing the restoration of a 1948 Custom Runabout. The boat came to me with some work completed including an attempt to remove the stern lift ring which resulted in a gouge being made in the rear deck. I have repaired the damage, but now need to reinstall the lift ring. Because of the angle of the lift ring it does not seem possible to screw in the lift ring without damaging the deck. i must be missing something. Help please.
Re: Custom Runabout stern lift ring removal/install
Here is the answer to my lift ring question. i spoke with Mike Green this morning. i knew that he had experience with Custom Runabouts. The issue is that because of the angle of the lift ring it can not be screwed in from the top as is usually the case with most boats. The lift ring rod is first screwed into the mounting base in the boat then screwed into the lift ring itself. This is all done from below. I had the additional problem the the rod was slightly bent. I had it straightened and installed the lift ring. Thanks Mike.
