'K' Engine Fuel Pump Assembly Details

Post by Riviera Wish » Thu Feb 18, 2016 7:37 pm

I took apart the subject fuel pump but did not take note of how the diaphragm springs were arranged. Attached is a photo of the parts involved. Could someone please answer the following questions regarding reassembly of the pump?
Which spring (blue or silver) goes beneath the pump diaphragm?
Does the black 'spring cap' go on top of the blue spring or the silver spring?
Thanks in advance for your expert advice.

Here you go...
I documented a lot of this when I restored my Capri and engine.

Thanks Pete. It looks like I am missing one spring cap. Going to try to 'fly' without it!

Yes, good stuff Pete. Thanks for the detailed pdf.
I made a new cork gasket for the lower cover and can't seem to stop a leak. My next step is to add a thin coat of permatex gasket maker on the cork. What do you think? Anything else I should try.
Thanks.

Flaten the lower cover on a flat surface with 400 grit wet dry paper. Check cover against housing. Sometimes you need to address the housing with a flat file. Do not over tighten the screws and bend the cover.

OK Jim. I'll take your advice and hunt down a spring cap.
Anyone have a suggestion on where to locate / purchase a spring cap?
Thanks,
Steve

If you are rebuilding your fuel pump you should have the gaskets included. I keep a fuel pump around rebuilt so if I need it.
