Exhaust hose or copper pipe
I have been following with interest the post on "Source for 2 3/4" x 0.50 Copper".
Beyond historical accuracy is there any advantage going with copper pipe instead of exhaust hose. The hose is less expensive at $18/ft compared to $28/ft, but the big savings are that you can buy it by the foot and it doesn't require bending. My boat was repowered with a 327F so how it would be judged in a show is not a big concern.
If I go with copper how do you accurately measure and describe the multiple bends and angles. Even if I go with copper I think I would need to use about 3' of hose to get from the risers, past the motor mounts and into the bilge.
If I go with hose I would be interested in buying 2 3/4 leftover ends to exit the transom. Thanks Dean

Hose
I guess to sum it up, nothing lik the sound of a big six though big copper. I'll keep you in mind if I have any shorts, ( and I'm sure I will).

I agree, the sound will be better through copper. Also, I think it is better to make your bends out of a rigid material if you want to use hose for the long runs. You can buy elbows with different degree bends to hook both ends of the hose to. Some of these can be fiberglass. Also I think there is a Coast Guard regulation about keeping metal exhaust piping until at least 18" past the exhaust manifold hook up point for safety.

I included the link below. I used the 2.5" mufflers. They weigh 6 lbs each and sound great. I cruise at 2500-2800 rpm at 25-28 mph. There are several sources for this same muffler. This compnay was about 10 dollars per muffler cheaper and they arrived quickly. All I had to pick up was the clamps. Everyone recommends 2 clamps at each hookup. This muffler is a Primex muffler if you do a search. Let me know how it works out.
