On a 283, is the flywheel housing different for the manual trans or hydraulic trans?

On the early 283 flywheel forward there is only one shown in the parts list. Part number 16.21-05976

The 283 I'm looking at to replace the current KL has a hydrulic trans. My question is, will the manual trans from the KL bolt up?

NO. The K series takes a 1EX manual reverse gear. The 283 takes a 2EX. Also the 283 with the manual reverse gear has an oil passage drilled in the crankshaft that the Hydraulic gear does not have.

There is a factory adapter plate and flange to bolt up a hydraulic gearbox to the flywheel forward engine.

Are you talking about the flywheel housing or the rear engine support where the transmission mounts to?

You will be better off in the long run finding an engine with the correct parts.

They aren’t all flywheel forward. You want to be careful with orientation and rotation as CC made all combos.
