Missing Horn

Post by tparsons56 » Thu Aug 20, 2020 9:57 am

When I purchased my 1941 - 19' Custom, it was missing the horn that was mounted under the deck. Does anyone have a picture of what the original horn looked like? The reason I ask is that my father once renovated a 1941 Plymouth and I found the horn in the attached pictures among his things. It was called a "Montone" and as made by EA Laboratories in Brooklyn.

I'm not sure why the pictures are not posting - I tried attaching as a JPG file.

I had a 1941 Custom 19 - Horn was a single black horn. I cant find a photo. But I know Jim Staib will have boxes of them http://www.finewoodboats.com/ That is a special boat and attention to detail is important. It was a transition year. Very cool bow.

Thanks Matt - That looks nothing like the horn off the old Plymouth so I will scrap that idea. Now I just need to find to find an original. Jim - Do you have one?

I don't sell horns. Too many issues with people that don't know how to install them.

There were 2 major companies that I know of back in the day that provided horns for boats, one being Sparton and the other being Klaxon. They made mostly horns for cars at the time but did provide horns for boats. You can buy a new horn from a couple of sources but what you fill find is that they all blow AAAUUUUGA which is for an old car and does not sound right on a boat. What I have done in the past because I can't get one from Jim is that I find one one E-bay and hopefully get lucky and I can restore it to a working condition. A company called Bratton's sells the car horns and has a service to restore your old ones but not sure they still offer that service. I have fixed a bunch of horns over the years but sometimes they are to for gone to make work again. Now you know what the pro's do....

OK - Thanks Mike! I will keep searching eBay to see if I can come up with one. It will give me something to do over the long Covid winter.

The photo size is too large, reduce it to a KB size.
