Could someone tell me if a Standard HR106 (3-pin) is the right horn relay to use with a 6 volt system in a 1951 CC Sedan. This relay was recommended by two sources. The horn works great when direct wired to the battery with a momentary button, but doesn't work at all when the relay is added to the circuit. I've tried two relays - same result. A test light put on the incoming terminal to the horn button glows, but just barely. Anywhere else the test light is put on a hot terminal it is very bright.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: 6volt Horn Relay
If the horn button is the steering column type, this diagram from 1952 indicates that the steering column needs to be connected to ground to complete the control circuit to the relay.

Re: 6volt Horn Relay
The horn ring on the steering column isn't working, so the owner thought a momentary push button mounted under the dash would be OK. The routing is the same - relay-to-switch, then switch-to-ground.
In another forum somebody said that 6 volts isn't enough to operate the electro-magnet in a 12 volt relay? Maybe?

Re: 6volt Horn Relay
I cannot find a voltage range anywhere on line but I would be surprised if it would actuate with only 6V. Have you put 6V to the control terminal and checked for continuity between the other two terminals ?
If that works then you could have another problem with the momentary switch not working or not being able to carry enough current to drive the relay.
Nobody makes a 6V horn relay replacement ?

Second on testing the relay with 6 volts and checking continuity. You should be able to hear an audible click when the relay operates too. If the relay is the correct 6 volt one, there must be something else going on in the circuit limiting current flow. If it's a 12 volt relay coil, 6 volts would not be enough to pull the contacts together.
