The Brass Bell - Managing Editor Needed

Post by Al Benton » Thu Feb 11, 2016 10:44 pm

Please rest assured that we have every intention of publishing The Brass Bell well into the future as has been done for the past 42 years.

However, we need a person with publishing experience to take on the role of Managing Editor. Although not his “cup of tea” Jim Frechette agreed to fill in until Bill Baldwin had recovered from major surgery. Sadly, Bill didn’t recover. Following Bill’s sudden passing last October, Jim agreed to act as our Interim Managing Editor until June. Jim has done, and is doing, an excellent job of filling this duty and seeing that the publication continues uninterrupted, but his background lacks the experience necessary to be effective in this role, although he is willing to remain on the Publications Team indefinitely.

This is where you may be able to help. If you, or someone you know, would be in a position to volunteer to serve on the prestigious Publication Team please let us hear from you. Our primary need is a person with experience in publication, editing, writing, and with a desire to serve as our Managing Editor. Please contact me at [email protected], or Jim Frechette at [email protected].

Thanks in advance for your help.

THANK YOU JIM! For the fabulous job you are doing filling in.

I can only imagine how consuming this must be for someone like us without the publishing background to lean on.

Though Bill will never truly be replaced, I am confident that we will find a very talented and capable managing editor among our members. If you read this and know of someone who would be a good fit, but does not frequently read The Buzz, please pass this request on to them.

First of all, I want to sincerely thank Jim Frechette for taking the reins and keeping the Brass Bell up to Bill Baldwin's standards, which has been done with each issue. This is a very arduous task and he has done an amazing job. Thank you Jim.

Second, on behalf of the CCABC Board of Directors, we have selected an Editorial Team of three excellent candidates. Jim Volgarino, Steve Griffitts, and Jim Barach have been selected to oversee the Brass Bell magazine production. These three gentlemen are very qualified and will do a great job in keeping the Brass Bell in Award Winning status.

Jim Volgarino holds a degree in Journalism and teaches Graphic Technologies at the University of Northern Iowa. His technical experience and knowledge of print publication will help keep the quality that we have all come to know and expect. Jim has published multiple articles and recently finished writing a book.

Steve Griffitts is an experienced writer and wood boat enthusiast and also a CPA by trade. Steve has been a huge part of the Wooden Boat community in Texas and had a great article published in the most recent Brass Bell if you want to see some of his work first hand. Steve has won several writing contests with his novellas and short stories. Steve will bring his writing experience and hobby expertise to the pages of the Bell and be a great contributor.

Jim Barach is a Wooden Boat aficionado who has an undying passion for the hobby who holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication. He has a background in marine sales and print advertisement and will bring lots of experience in the industry to the Board. If you ever want to know the answer to a wooden boat trivia question, Jim is the guy to ask.

We are excited to bring these three to the team and feel that the Bell will continue on it's path of greatness. We also want to thank these gentlemen for stepping up to the plate and we look forward to their first issue later this year.

Sincerely,

Andy Riggs

A big thanks to all three for stepping forward, and to Jim for holding things together under rough circumstances.
