68 cavalier 17 ski boat

Post by 1968cavalier » Sat Jul 20, 2013 11:23 pm

Hey everyone just joined the membership. Awesome readings so far. I acquired my first chris craft this year. It's a 1968 Chris craft cavalier 17ft ski boat. 106 were made from 67-68 according to my research. I'm having a hard time finding information on this year. It appears they are very rare. I've yet to find another one online. Wandering if any of you have any information, pictures, or general ideas on this particular model. Thanks

Welcome aboard....is your boat Red or Blue? 1968 was the last wooden ski boat. I have the '69 model, which is fiberglass. I know where a red '68 is sitting in a field in Ohio waiting to be saved. Post some pics.

Thank you!!! Mine is red! I see some traces of blue and the bottom is bronze so I'm thinking possibly it was originally blue. They made 106 and mine is number 96. I can't seem to find any one online that has another 68. They must be pretty rare. I'm going to try to post some pictures up. I'm also going to send the 40 bucks to the mariners museum and get the hull card to confirm everything.

Here are some pictures of my love. I've been using it weekly up until last week and I decided to take the fiberglass off. Someone had fiberglassed the whole top of the boat at one time and I couldn't stand it. Also replacing some plywood on the front deck that was rotting due to the glass holding moisture in. Let me know what you think. Thanks guys!

Been working hard the last few days getting this baby back to its original wood. Got the dash down to its mahogany and stripped the entire transom this evening to wood. It's looking great. More pictures to come.

Welcome, Looks Great, glad to see your boat. I picked up a 1966 18Ft Cavalier Custom Ski Boat. Mine is one of 40 built that year. I found only one in the ACBS directory and I know of a second. In 66 you could get an 16 Ft or an 18'. Not much info out there on these boats. The info I have is for 66, I'm sure some stuff is the same. Send me a PM or ask here.
