Waterline paint on 1951 CC 18' Riviera

Post by jlgsail » Sat Feb 21, 2015 12:52 pm

I plan on using the Interlux Micron Extra Red (#5692) for the bottom paint as suggested by tuobanur in my last post. But I forgot to ask about the waterline stripes. The boat when I got it had white and gold stripes. Need help as to who makes a paint in those colors that also works with the bottom paint above. Thanks .

It is supposed to be white over red. I am not sure how that will look with a red bottom though.

Anti-fouling bottom paint is not normally used on these runabouts, especially if trailered. It just isn't as pretty as a high gloss enamel or polyurethane which is what is on 99.9% of these boats when a color other than copper-bronze.

Riv's had a double waterline stripe, white over red. If you want to paint the whole bottom red, maybe a single 3/4" white waterline is the way to go?

Any alkyd enamel or polyurethane will do in the color of your choice. Easypoxy, Kirby's, Epifanes, Interlux - all work

It is true that you cannot get quite the finish with the micron extra as you can with an enamel, but since you only see a small part of that when the boat is in the water I went for something that was more durable and is why I chose the micron extra. They make a white in the micron extra which is what I used, it's called shark white and it's not a bright white almost a grayish white, I like it.

Also, when you put the micron extra in areas you want it nice and smooth, sides and the water line, thin it about 10%, it flows a lot better.

Since micron extra paint washes away with use. It not going to hold up near as well as enamel paint will.
