Framing, planking and fairing. Repair, or reconstruction. If it's hull related, you'll find it here.

1958 sportsman bilge color?

Post by undersee » Tue Mar 16, 2010 8:00 pm

I know the correct bilge color for a 58 sportsman is varnished. A while ago it was a topic and a great question with a huge reply.
I've replaced the keel, a bunch of frames, battens, plywood, and bottom planks.
This will never be a high end award winning show boat. Am I killing my self trying to sand and make all the wood match or should I just use red CC bilge paint?

What would you guys do?
I tried to get this in a poll but it doesn't seem like I did it right

Bilge Color

99.9% of us would probably not know if a painted bilge was correct on this particular model. I say just don't go with the red metal flake paint  .
Boats are to be made of wood, otherwise, God would have grown fiberglass trees.
