2008 Gathering of the Gar Woods

Last Saturday (8/2) there were 25 original Gar Woods on display at Obexer's Marina on Lake Tahoe. Obexer's was the original Tahoe Gar Wood dealer.

In this photo's foreground are the only two 1931 33' Gar Woods built. In the backround are six more original V-12 powered Gar's. This is the only place in the country you will find this many Gar Woods in one place. I only wish I had a photo of the entire marina.

It's called the Gathering of the Gar Woods on Lake Tahoe. They have been doing it for 14 years now. Tahoe has more Gar's than any other lake and the boats they have there are some of the rarest Gar's ever built.

It is usually one or two weeks before the Concours.

Update: This event usually precedes the Concours, but the Concours will be in June this year.

The 2009 Gathering of the Gar Woods will still be in August, thankfully, August 1st to be exact - at Obexer's.

The legendary Tony Brown is now running this event with his first mate, Sabina. www.WesternRunabouts.com

By popular demand, the 2009 Gathering of the GarWoods will be held August 1, 2009 at Obexer's Marina, Homewood.
