1956 17' Sportsman interior

Post by sknowlton777 » Fri Aug 18, 2017 12:11 pm

Hello-
I have just become the owner of my grandfathers 1956 17' Sportsman (long story). The boat sat in someones back yard for 40+ years and is in very much disrepair. I have a couple of pictures of the exterior, but I need some pictures / insight on how to start to put the interior of this boat back together (starting from nothing aside from some torn strands on the seat back and knowing it was Flame Red ). It needs a total restoration, but the interior seems to be the biggest mystery to me.
Thanks
Scott

Great !! I only have 2 pictures of the boat from the 50's when it was bought
There is no interior in the boat now

Not sure how to insert a pic into this. Is there a trick to it ?

Jim,

Looking at some of your pics, with the boat turned on its side at some marina.....what is the story on what looks to be a chris craft seastrake cavalier in the background??? Looks like a nice one.
Your project is really neat and the photos just make it all the better, thanks for posting,

Hello John,
I'm not sure of the story on that boat. That photo was taken some time ago at Don Ault's marina on the Clinton River in Mount Clemens Mi. Don has since relocate near Algonac so my trips to that old marina have ceased. Some good old history over there. The old Hacker plant is just up the river. Now Mount Clemens Marine Center.
