Hello Everybody

Post by Marco74 » Mon Mar 26, 2018 4:23 am

Hello Everybody,
my name is Marco and I'm from Italy.
I'm new to the forum, I recently acquired a 1970 XK19 that I'm about to restore.
Unfortunately the previous owner blew the original 327QA engine and replaced it with an OMC Sterndrive.
I'd like to convert it back to V-Drive but being in Italy it's not an easy task.
I found a 350QA in USA with Paragon transmission but it's the wrong Ratio.
So I'm still searching for a suitable V-Drive, any suggestion is appreciated!

Marco, really pretty boat...sorry about the stern drive! Understand wanting to go back to the Vee drive...wish I could help but that is out of my area....someone on here will know though...so hang in there. You say you found a Q with a paragon that was wrong ratio...what is the right ratio?

Hi John,
thanks a lot for your reply.
Original ratio was 1:1.
Since the paragon seems unobtainable I'd switch to another V-Drive but being a tight fit I fear anything different from the original would not fit...
Has anybody ever used a difeerent unit? Could you give me your suggestions?
Thanks a lot and have a nice day everybody!
Marco

Hi Marco,
Welcome :D .
I seem to recall a recent thread about someone converting to a different V-drive/transmission brand for the same reasons you are facing, I think you will find it if you look back through the posts in this section.
I believe I would also search online for transmission suppliers, these places will also be able to provide V-drive hardware. You can find a list of Buzz-friendly sources right here by doing a search within the Boat Buzz.
Sorry the previous owner was not smarter about butchering a beautiful classic that now you have to fix but it's great to hear that you understand the importance of and are willing to do so.
Keep us posted please.

Hi Marco:

I would suggest also posing your question on Paul Pletcher's Commander forum. http://www.network54.com/Forum/424840

Paul is a Board Member of the Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club and he and his followers are very versed in these boats.

Thanks for becoming a member!
