Fender Cleat Placement

Post by [email protected] » Mon Feb 07, 2022 7:11 pm

First I know my 1948 18 Sportsman my not have had factory installed 2 in fender cleats.

I do not have hull card and do not care. Boat is out of shop with fresh varnish etc. Will be enjoying her on a regular basis and docking a lot.

I have new Perko chrome cleats. Shout I install 2 per side or 4?

Also placement suggestions welcome.
Not sowing fine point so point deduction not a concern.
Thanks

I think I would go with three per side. Placement is usually right by or forward of the windshield or where the boat is the widest, and then another about 18-24" forward of the transom. You don't want it too close to the transom because it possibly could "roll" around the transom and you would lose all protection. The third would be about halfway between the others.
