exhaust fumes

Post by randy krout » Thu Dec 10, 2020 9:57 pm

good day
I have a 56 CC capri and when up to speed the fumes from the exhaust circles back up and over into the cockpit. Has anyone experienced this or perhaps have a solution?
thanks

This can be a common phenomenon but you need to figure out if it's exhaust washing back up forward, or is it engine blow-by fumes from the engine compartment coming back into the cockpit. Blow-by fumes usually have a burnt oil smell.

If you have a bilge blower, (and everyone should) try running that when you have the problem to help pin point if it's blow-by.

What engine do you have? Your answer might suggest checking the exhaust line for leaks.

Same issue and some engines do it more than others. Just like Bilge Rat said. And I suppose Mrs Rat hates it even more. One simple fix is to change the oil. I did that and it cut it way way down.. Many of our engines dont have filters. It is a blow by and on an older engine can be because of the rings. BUT, it also can be because your oil has gotten thin? Like MR RAT said. What engine? How Old?
