Boat Weight

Post by SAMBA » Thu Jul 23, 2020 1:24 pm

My 1953 33' Sedan Cabin Cruiser has a published weight of 9600 lbs or so. I see a plaque on board with the same weight listed. I have a couch and refrigerator that stay onboard. I need a trailer and can get one rated for 13,000 lbs. The next step up is rated 15,600 lbs., and costs $2500 more. I am assuming those listed weights are dependable? Don't want to buy more trailer than needed, so want to go with the lower wt rating if possible. Thanks

The Essential guide does not show a 1953 33' Sedan Cruiser but there is one for 1947-1950. Weight is listed as 8400-9250. This would be empty weight. Besides your added furniture you should consider on board fuel and water and batteries as well as all the things that naturally accumulate on a boat. Do you have a generator?

Jim F., Thanks. Generator has been removed. Would have freshwater and holding tanks empty before trailering. Usually fuel tanks maybe 1/2 full, so 60 gallons at 6 lbs./gallon. With the 3 batteries would still then be well below trailer capacity of 13,000 lbs. I pull all of the other "stuff" off the boat each fall, excepting the couch. Just for the record I may have the marina get a total weight once it's on the trailer.
