Arizona storage

Winterizing? Summerizing? Covering? Trailering? If it is about a boat out of water put it here.

Arizona storage

Post by jschwamm » Sun Mar 24, 2019 11:59 am

Can someone give me tips for storing in dry Arizona climate? Have fully enclosed/sealed aircraft hangar, never gets over 90 degrees in summer. But in dry AZ.
What can be done to store a wood boat there, or is it not possible to keep one properly in AZ dry climate?
Buckets of water inside boat with cover on do any good? Humidifier inside covered boat?
Any help/suggestions appreciated.

No experience in the dry climate conditions of Arizona, but elsewhere some people hose down the floor under the boat periodically to keep the bottom moisture levels up. Probably would evaporate pretty quickly down there though.

No idea about a dry climate but I would say you are better off with outside hull moisture. Build a couple troughs under the hull and keep them full of water. Better than wetting the floor. Still will be an uphill battle if your hanger has a concrete floor.

I like the water troughs idea and maybe I would have some sort of tent over the boat reaching to the floor. If it still tried to dry out add a humidifier.
