Hemmingways boat - Pilar

Post by MikeM » Tue Dec 06, 2005 9:31 am

Group,
I recieved an interesting phone call the other day from a representative at the Plymouth Maritime Museum, in Plymouth NC. It seems as though they've been contacted by someone at the Discovery Channel for information on Hemmingway's 1933 Cruiser. They are trying to recreate the hurricane of 1935 in the Florida Keys and apparently Hemmingway aided the victims by bringing supplies to the victims by boat. The original boat currently resides in Cuba on display. They're looking for a similar boat in which to shoot some scenes.

If you have any information you can call me or the Plymouth Museum Rep, Willie Dryer.

Thanks,
Mike Mayer 919.866.0636
Willie Dryer 252.217.8531 (Museum Rep)

PS: I hope this inquiry is in line with the purpose of this forum!

Mike;

It would be helpful to know what the original boat was. You have any idea?

If you can believe all things internet...it appears Pilar is a 38 Wheeler.

Bill;

I think you are correct. It does not match up with anything Chris.

Aha, this I can answer. There is a replica of Pilar sitting in the Worldwide Sportsman store in Islamorada in the Florida Keys. This is one heck of a store btw and a definite don't miss if you are in the Keys.

Here is a link to the store, when you get to the web page click on "see our photo gallery"
