What does V/T mean on the Hull Card?

If it doesn't pertain to metal, wood, wire or fabric—but it is about vintage Chris-Crafts, ask your question or give your advice here.

What does V/T mean on the Hull Card?

Post by jbyers » Wed Jun 08, 2016 1:25 pm

I was just looking at my hull card again for my 1958 Cavalier Utility. It's 15 feet long. The hull card says "15' Cav V/T".

What does this mean?

Could it possibly be UT rather than VT?

Hull Card
Good call but it definately looks like a V to me. See picture.

I also don't know what the initials mean in front of the K on Engine Model.

I believe you are looking at U/T intended to mean "utility". It appears that the writer did not like his initial "k" and wrote it again. Keep in mind that there was no way to erase mistakes so cross outs and doubles are not unheard of. The hull cards retained by the factory and from which your copy was made is actually the hard paper at the bottom of a multi "carbon" layered form with the original "onion skin" top copy retained by the dealer. Every original I have seen has been filled out in pencil so erasures were possible on the original but not so on the carbon copy beneath.

V designated Cavalier line. Pretty sure you will find it in your hull number. No idea on the T.

Actually Chad, T for Chattanooga would have been a very logical guess since the boat was delivered to a dealer here in Atlanta, BUT the Hull Card and the Marine Museum both said the boat was manufactured in Caruthersville, MO.............

Maybe it routed through Chattanooga?? Who knows. Great information though.

OK Chad!

I find this very interesting as American Beauty's full HIN # is X4S-38-305. Everything marked on the boat is simply 38-305 which is hull # 305 of the 38' Constellations. From your information I now understand the X is because she is an Express Cruiser. The 4 is because she was set up to sleep 4 people. I am still uncertain what the S stands for as non of your examples work. She was built in Holland. (Michigan that is) Any ideas? :?
