this is a great thread. The last fellow that provides the math is right on of course, but most people didn't take that "course" lol.....I have the beamy sea strake from 66 at 33 feet, bottom line here is that we love the boats no matter what the speed and fuel consumption....I can trawl/crawl and I ...

That's a cool posting about the Big Sea Skiff, being lapstrake to the keel helps her for sure.

Random comments on this thread which is progressing nicely with good input and info: With those 283's you are underpowered today, ok when she was new and dry, and fine for your purposes it seems. You can get a replacement ANYTHINGS for that GM small block, and new 350's (5.7 l.) will generally fit i...

That is not bad really, pretty average for her length/ weight (a lot of water weight too). I have a 33 Cavalier seastrake and I have never had the 4 barrells come in...run at a comfortable 2600 (clean and new annual paint) @ 10 to 11 knots, at approaching 3k doing approaching 14 (15 clean) Figure 1 ...

engine stalls, coil hot

you don't say what boat or what engine, but in general: I'll bet you have an external coil resistor that is bad, or a coil with a bad interal one. If you have the external it is a coil of wire, likely burned out or up, or a small ceramic deal with the coil of wire in it. In either case it is hard to...

Ok folks: today I found the WoodenBoat article which I referenced and you all replied about in the posting under Nautolex (mispelled in the post). Al,

You are right on about the relative fuel cost.
Another thing is the learning curve, once we have done everything on a certain boat, we are aging and ill disposed to learn about another one. Also, we must honor our old cruisers by preserving them.

Al, Thanks for the reply. Wishing you luck...hey...this is fun right??? Hang in there. Considered the two strips, not the worse compromise. Mine only has one,3/4", but then it did not have nautolex either, it had the paint soaked canvas. I did the cockpit top (I have the optional hardtop) and since ...

Ok folks, I have posted on this subject before, but added post are always helpful I find. I like timing as culprit. But: what is the state of the carb? Cyls could be filled with gas as easy as water, yielding similar symptoms.

yep, you are in for some agony removing those. But the visual and strength impact will be good. I just did the this job, though on a small boat/scale, I had but three on each side of the cockpit (taffrail only) (6 total) If you have a fifty footer she must have the quality bronze bases, I had replac...

well since your screename is "without care", fear not. Those alum tanks will be the best thing you ever did for that boat. Jack,

Those Sea Skiffs were very stong boats, she will celebrate the saltwater as far as that lapstrake plywood hull is concerned, be prepared for all the metal to corrode and break your heart, but the hull, which I am sure leaks some, will like the salt.

several of you mention parts search methods for EBAY.
I go daily through all the 10 or more pages of CC stuff, one of you suggested going to ebay motors and then "boat parts chris craft", this did not work well.
What does? Helpful hints from ebay gurus appreciated.

Paul, Many thanks for the reply. Did not know about the motor mounts.... My couplings work well, but they are sort of a mystery. I am hoping to hear from somebody that has experience with them.
