Do you have cutouts in the rear of the dash adjacent to the round instrument cutouts ?
In this photo they look like notches on the inside sides of the holes where the gauges mount.
That is where the lights mount from the back.

CPES does not have to dry between coats but does need to be dry to the touch before applying barrier coat primer (24 to 48 hrs). Famowood is for screw holes. One note on barrier coat primer - only mix what you will use right away. It will harden in a sealed can and you will have an expensive hockey ...

It sounds like you don't have time to do everything described above in your break period.
If so then can you get to the point where you are ready for bronze paint ?
At least that way you are all sealed up for the waiting period.
Also what you called bondo is Famowood wood filler.

I recall some older posts like this where the distributor cap was the issue - maybe cracked and failing as it heats up ?

I feel your pain. I sent my previous owner (99 years old) a letter hoping for photos and history and got nothing back.
We'll see how enthusiastic I am at 99 when a new owner inquires about my boat.

There is also the golf tee method. Not everyone is aware that golf tees are made from hardwood. I keep a bag of unpainted tees on my workbench. You just tap the tee into the hole and then trim it flush and either re-drill or just put a new screw in.

First of all I do not live and die Chris Craft so you may not want my advice but here it is. Jim, Since all of the non black areas are raised you should be able to do what I did. Spray the whole badge black and then take a small piece of sand paper and rub lightly over the whole badge so you sand off the black paint on the high spots (letters and borders). You can optionally clear coat when...

I installed a fuse block on my runabout. It is mounted behind the dash on the side of the "glove compartment" out of sight. I would not mount anything electrical in the engine compartment that you can mount elsewhere for safety reasons. In my opinion everything should be fused as if anything shorts ...

Re: Leaking Fuel Pump
If you mount the electric pump low in the boat away from the engine then it cannot leak on anything hot and ignite. That is good. Jim has a good point on the fumes though. In a car the fuel leaks it drips out on the ground. As long as you cut a hole in the bottom under the pump you should be okay 8)...

I have a KL as well. I read your other post. I am a little confused by your description of water routing. Hi Eric, Welcome to the Boat Buzz forum ! What is your hull number ? I have a 1953 Rocket Hull number D-17-098. I am curious on yours as there are not many left. Mine has a KL. I would isolate the problem more before taking the generator out. It is not difficult.
Using a voltage meter check the output of the generator, output of the regulator and both sides of the meter.
When I goes to zero volts then you have isolated the problem.

I think you mean 18 or 20 amps. Most of these boats have an ammeter.
Did you disconnect the generator output and measure the voltage coming out of the generator ?
What is your generator output wired to ?

Troy good point on CCA. Most people think if their battery voltage is good then they are set.
I just got a battery tester after suspecting mine was getting weaker. Voltage is fine but down to 139 CCA (was 620 new).
These testers are not expensive and easy to use.

Does not sound like you have an electrical issue to me. If it starts with starter fluid why would you have an electrical issue ? No you don't need the original ground wire to the distributor. Just the negative from the coil to the pertronix. The only high voltage from the coil goes to the center of ...

Those shafts are easy to replace. You will want to get the oil out of the transmission first.
Also, replace the seals while you are at it.
