Flicka and Mike, Congrat's on getting her settled at your home. Sounds like eventually things went well. Blocking a US highway at rush hour is something you don't get to do every day. That should add to the good memories for you later. I spent all day Friday cleaning the bilge on mine (have a small ...

I'm curious, do the urethane products you used have UV blockers or is it the CPES that took UV out of the equation and protected the stain and wood? I put a single application of CPES over stain/filler on a small area of my boat (toe rail) three years ago, however, I used varnish (thus, not urethane...

Flicka, sorry for the short version earlier. Had some things to catch uo on. She's a beauty. I think you are going to be very happy with her. The boat is very solid and complete. It's been well taken care of over the years. The loading went well. Chuck (previous owner) had it up on his own jacks bef...

Felicia, Good to hear from you. I replied to your pm but not confident it actually sent. Thus: I called the hauller and the previous owner to confirm time and location. We're all set at this end for Wednesday, 6:00am. I'll make sure they batten down the loose items including the search light, gen se...

I discovered a similar place on my '60, 27' connie about 4 years ago. This was on the first plank under the rub rail, well above the water line. It was in a place that I could investigate from inside the cabin. I found a large area of rot on the bottom of the gunwale where it meets the foward deck. ...

It appears to be their #407 Low Density Filler, blended microballoon-based filler. A 12g package comes with their #101-6 Maxi Repair Kit along with a few tools and a syringe. The other product, #101 Handy Repair Pack comes with 3.5g of #404 High Density Filler, which they recommend for hardware bond...

Jerry, I wonder if a high density filler would work better for this. West System Epoxy sells repair kits with either high or low density fillers included. Maybe I'll pick up one of each and try both out. I also wonder if some kind of filler would work in polyester resin. I've got some left over from...

Flicka, I would be glad to represent you and your partner if it's ok with all parties when she's loaded up. I'm particularly interested in how they support the keel while moving the trailer under her. I've seen it done with a travel lift but not at a remote site. Send a pm with contacts and I could ...

Could the tack cloth leave a residue that causes the varnish to do that in cool weather? I don't know much about tack cloths, except they feel stickey. I use them on wood projects to remove dust before and durring finishing in my shop. I havn't used a tack cloth when applying varnish over old varnis...

Filcka, It sounds like things are comming together nicely. Keep us posted on the progress. I'm only about an hour drive from Gellispie. Let me know when the big move is scheduled and I may drive over to give you moral support, if not a helping hand if necessary. It would be fun to see the boat first...

I'm in the Cruiser family of CC Boating so she stays in the water year-round. She gets pulled once every two years for a quick inspection, sanding, calk touch-up, bottom paint (antifouling, ablative) and back in (if there's no appearant repairs to be done). The bottom is all original wood (re-fasten...

Flicka, continue your persuit to save this treasure. Too many boats of this ventage are disapearing. I witnessed one being burned last fall and another was bulldozed under this spring in a mearby marina. Here's a wild thought. Have her shipped to a marina on the Mississippi above Lock 26 near St. Lo...

Paul, this is a fairly open ended question for anyone to reply to. From past posts, you have a '51 Riveriera which will have a hull number. Contact The Mariners' Museum and request research on your boat. I think there's a good chance they will have wiring diagrams for it. There's a link to the Museu...

Wood Filler for screw holes
I've heard of using match sticks and tooth picks. I tried this with not much success. I went back and drilled them out, cut 3/8" mahogany plugs and glued them in with Gorella glue, then re-drilled the screw holes in the plugs. They are holding up so far.

I've been with Ski Safe for the past 4 years or so for a 1960 28' CCC that's in fresh water all year(except when pulled for bottom paint once a year).
