If you get sick of it, I'll buy it off you. I need a 350 long block to swear at this winter.

I will be keeping an eye on this as I am in the market for a 350 long block for the Penn Yan that just cracked a head.

Re: Oil for the new engine
If the new engine has a flat tappet cam you need high ZDDP oil or a zinc/ZDDP additive, especially for breaking in, but also over the life of the engine. The ZDDP levels were dramatically reduced in modern oils to protect catalytic converters, but our old engines still need it. Also, verify oil requ...

Re: Dual exhaust for 283 in a 55' Sportsman
With straight exhaust and no muffler or restriction, I don't think there is any real difference in noise level. Going from low power low compression K's to V8's with more cylinders, higher compression, and more power is likely why he found it louder.

Re: Dual exhaust for 283 in a 55' Sportsman
My 283 uses newer Osco manifolds in a three way system. They were the only (new) option at the time I did the rebuild but I heard they want out of production.

If it is not a show boat, do you need to use copper? Rubber exhaust hose will be cheaper, easier, and safer.

Re: fuel filter
Fuel today isn't what it once was. You really want to find room for a filter/water separator, especially if you may end up with ethanol in the tank. Also just because your tank is now and clean doesn't mean the tank you are pumping fuel out of is clean. Even non-ethanol fuels today evaporate faster ...

Re: Waterproof Paint?
The glass smooth finish comes from your prep work before and between coats and your finish paint. Well done barrier coat plus 2 part finish paint gives a smoother higher gloss finish than gel coat. FWIW, Interprotect 2000e is an epoxy primer from Interlux. Total Boat is another paint brand the also ...

Re: Waterproof Paint?
The water proofing needs to start below the paint. Look at something like Interprotect 2000e as a primer/water proof barrier coat. If the boat is trailered or in a lift and will not sit in the water more than 2-3 days you can get away with a topside paint over the barrier coat. More than that and yo...

The younger generation we need to appeal to left Facebook years ago. Today's teens and 20 something's are on Snap Chat and other apps. Not one of my kids friends has a FB account. That's what their mom does.

Re: Facebook CC Website
IMHO, the foolish and shortsighted move to Facebook is going to kill the CCABC. At one time, the ability to post here was a compelling reason to join the club and to renew each year. A magazine, no matter how nice, is not attractive to people under 45, maybe 55. This forum was the future, but it has...

I agree that the hull has more to do with the issue than the rudder and that you will pay a price for a larger rudder.

Re: Gas tank restorayion
If the tank is solid, you can flush it out with a good solvent. Add a spin on fuel filter to catch anything that does not rinse out. I washed my tank with E85 which is an affordable solvent sold by the gallon at your local gas station.

Re: 59 chris craft ski boat repower
Converting to a 350 is easy as all the accessories will fit if you get the correct block. Add and eddlebrock manifold, larger valve heads, more agressive cam and you should get 290-300+ hp (at sea level). Rather than HP though, for your use, you want to focus on low end and midrange torque as max po...

Re: Distributors
The marine rating is for spark safety, not survival in a inhospitable environment. I would strongly suggest you stick with a marine distributor. There is a Delco HEI version for marine use that also has a solid state advance (no springs to rust or automotive vacuum). I don't know what Mallory is off...

My 62 had the oil tube to the gauge. If you have an electric sender, I wonder if it is non-original and perhaps a custom modification.

Tape over the fuel tank vent, and then use a LOW PRESSURE blower (small shop vac on blow?) to put a little pressure in the fuel tank and help the system prime.
