yeah, this boat has definitely been modified. If you look under the engine hatches does the construction appear as if that is the case? Look for sawn off ribs and other things that look "suspicious." you should post more photos, especially from inside the engine hatches.

Empty Truck from NYC to Clayton and Back

I'm considering going to the Clayton show this weekend. I have a Dodge Ram 1500 that is currently empty both ways. Need a boat hauled to the show/auction? Buying a boat/engine and want it brought back to the NYC/Long Island area? Let me know! Mark http://s18.postimage.org/y9q89kn5h/1000000107.jpg

I think Mitch lapointe's "scamp" 16' stepped bottom barrel back vs the silver bullet. Sure big iron is cool don but I like the BMW M3 mentality of getting as much hp Out of a small package. Plus 3 carbs is sweet.

Yes, just picked them up on Saturday and I'm installing them today. Quick turnaround at a good price. Thanks again Dave!

Well Dave Vanness gave me a good quote on rebuilding them. So I'm driving them into him tomorrow. I'll post "after" pics for sure.

VanNess is not too far from me. Maybe I should drop them off to him to see if he can dip them.

Want to trade engines Don? I'll throw in some old spark plug wires.... :)

Is there any way I can dip and etch them myself? I'll start looking for carb shops.

Well one is painted, the other is not. I know the one is for sure aluminum, but not sure about the other. I want them to match. Were all Carter WCFB's aluminum?

yeah, they are aluminum. How long do they need to soak in the carb cleaner? I let the parts soak for about a half hour. but the aluminum is still dark in some areas. What a project this has turned into.

So:

scrub
carb cleaner
metal restore (rust remover)
scrub
carb cleaner
dry
B-12
Engine Enamel

in that order? or do I have to remove the B12 with something before paint?

Carb Cleaner Enough before Painting

I'm going to paint my carbs once I have them taken apart. After scrubbing with a brush and dunking them in carb cleaner, is this enough prep before painting?

If ignition switch is on, am I drawing power?

I have a 1964 28' sea skiff with twin 283's. I want to wire the lights/dash lights/radio etc so that they are only on when the ignition switch is on. If my engines are not running, and I have the ignition switch on, will that kill my battery? the coil is only sucking power when the engines are runni...

Robert,
so you don't feel like you're rambling to yourself alone in this 'room,' I'll say something to reinforce your sanity.

I have no input to your problem though unfortunately. I have paragon velvet's too and love the name as well.

Protecting Battery Terminals

I boat in saltwater, and I wanted to put something on my battery terminals to keep them from getting crusty. I was thinking about using Boeshield. Is it ok to use that as a corrosion inhibitor? or are there other products that don't look messy.

I've found that power boaters are nowhere near as superstitious as sailboat owners on this subject. Well on any subject for that matter. But on a sailboat you are much more at the whim of mother nature/karma/the great magnet and all of that other stuff some of us don't believe in. :) Power boats get...

So I figure with my fuel pump rebuild, carb rebuild, new fuel lines and filter I'm going to gain at least like 100hp. And if I put NOS and other various sponsor stickers all over the boat I think that adds another 40-50hp. Can't wait.

Well now I'm concerned because the manual doesn't totally match the carb. Like the automatic choke (I think that's what it is) is not in the manual. It says "Climatic control" or something like that. Maybe I should just post a picture of the darned thing.

The carb has a 3 hoses coming into/out of it. One is the fuel line of course. Then there is a line coming off of a cone shaped thing into the engine block. The fitting at the carb is threaded but the block connection is just the hose sitting in the block. The other connections is a hard copper line ...

Can you rebuild fuel pumps similar to carbs? Mfine, where are you located? By this time I could have had you just drive out here, I buy you a beer (or 12) and we take care of this thing! ;) honetly though, I enjoy learning the mechanical aspects of things. I have never been good with engines, but I'...
