I hope she found a very good home. Troy, as you know, the day you buy a boat and the day you sell are the best days of your life. I hope you’re not going to be a stranger around here now.

Re: New trailer
I agree withe the Bilge Rat, there is a lot of engineering to get the trailer set up. You will need to set it on with a Travel Lift to get things right, at least the first time. Retrieving a boat that size on a ramp is quite a feat in itself. You will need the right ramp to be able to float it onto ...

Re: Hull Swelling
Dan, sounds like you answered your own question. If the bottom is in good condition you should have no worries. When soaking the hull from the inside, make sure you don't let more than a few inches of water accumulate, your boat was designed to hold water out, not in.

I'm not totally sure about the hose, someone may chime in on this. It's quite possible the bottom is original, there are a lot of them out there.

Re: Round brass tag?
That appears to be the original location for the pickup end. I do believe that it should be a solid copper tube without the hose section. I think we solved your mystery. A lot of times these bailers get removed because if the siphon break hole gets plugged at the top of the tube it may reverse flow ...

Looks great! You should get a little swelling, the concave you left in the seams will take up any of that. Nice job. Let us know how it holds up after launching.

Re: Finishing the hull CC semi enclosed 1951
I don’t know if I would use the 5200 on the seams. It’s a great product in certain places for it’s tenacious adhesive qualities. It is very much like a tough rubber when cured and not as sandable as they say. It’s kind of messy to work with, very permanent and hard to remove once cured. 3M makes a 4...

Re: Finishing the hull CC semi enclosed 1951
I have used Interlux Y31 seam compound. There is the white for above the waterline and the brown for below. On wider seams you will need to pay in some cotton to back it up (1/8”-1/4”). It stays soft and flexible.

Yes, that is the way they fastened them. Just don't over tighten them. When the wood swells the bolts will stay tight. Keep up the good work.

Re: Prop Shaft support strut
Sika-Flex or a polysulfide caulk of some sort will work fine. Don't use 5200, if you ever have to take it off it will be nearly impossible.

Of course I would go with marine grade. I wasn’t about to spring for a full sheet to replace two 10”x12” panels on my small job.
The luan did stain up really well though.

Re: Mahogany species
I think once it’s stained and finished, it should look fine. I have even used luan underlayment for some pieces in the cockpit in my cruiser. It has held up well for years, as it has exterior glue and I finished all sides to seal it completely.

Re: Painting bottom of Sea Skiff
I would still use an anti-fouling paint. There are some that are good for multiple seasons b/4 you have to recoat.
If your boat is going to live on the trailer when not in use, topside paint on the bottom will work

Re: 1954 22ft Sea Skiff Displacement weight
According to my Essential Guide, it weighs between 2487-2687#. That is dry weight from the factory. Add some for fuel, gear and accessories.
The title is asking for displacement, which is a different thing, the amount of water the boat will displace. You want the boat’s weight for trailering, right?

Re: how to remove the mast on a 32'constalaton
Hi, welcome to the Boat Buzz. Removing the mast from the mount is usually pretty straightforward, I’m going to assume that you are going to want to take the mount off from the cabin top. The mount has some machine screws up from the bottom through the cabin top, meaning you will have to deal with th...

Hi, welcome to the Boat Buzz. There are decals available for the hullside script. Usually in gold or silver. The white sided hulls the script were painted in red I believe. The red decals must be out there somewhere. Hopefully someone will chime in here with a source. The other option would be to fi...

Re: Fuel Additive
Non-ethanol gas of course is best. I use Startron fuel treatment year around, it has a stabilizer and removes moisture and cleans the fuel system too.
I still keep the tanks full when stored. Draining the tanks would the best option if E-10 is all that is available.

Re: KL engine clutch adjustment
From what I have heard Dave does great work, highly recommended. The reverse gear will have to be removed to rebuild, not a big deal. You will need to disconnect the shaft and shift linkage. Also the rear engine mounts and jack up the rear of the engine for clearance to slide it off.

Re: KL engine clutch adjustment
Cashman, it does sound like there is something going on that is keeping the clutch from staying engaged. I would look closely inside the box to see if something in there has come apart.
Worst case scenario is that the clutch discs are worn out or warped.
