The deadline for registration is coming up soon. Looks like we will have a good turnout of boats and the weather looks great. A perfect combination for a great show. Hope to see you there.

Re: Instrument panel

Hi Jim, sounds like you found someone. I have used mark in the past, excellent result, and I hear good things about Kocian, too. there is a post here on pre-war dash and instrument panels under research related, i think. If you find a picture of what yours is supposed to look like, it would be great...

Re: Special Race Boat Replica Project

Thanks, Matt, looks great. One question, i see woody boater matt's came with the s-w 4 gauge panel. I know you are doing a few things to suit your fancy, rather than slavishly copying the original. wonder if putting in the 6 gauge panel was one of them or perhaps some came with the 4 and others the ...

Matt, now that the other Matt, of woody boater fame, has acquired a special race boat, I thought it would be interesting to find out how you are coming on your replica. There is a lot of interest in your neat project. Thanks.

Re: Coeur d' Alene Classic Boat Festival Aug. 27-28

Some of those attending the show are planning a trip on Friday the 26th of August from cda to st. maries, via the st. joe river. This is a beautiful trip, particularly for those who have not seen the southern part of lake coeur d' alene, or the st. joe river. The plan is to leave blackwell island at...

thanks, therukauf for the info. the need to convert from a 6v because of difficulty finding a bilge pump has come up a lot before, so it might be helpful to post the info on your converter. on the point about starting difficulty, I have found the following as a fool proof way to start my 6v KA when ...

Great. Sounds like you have 2 neat boats and a project. Most of the chapter members will be at the sandpoint show in july, so please come if you can and introduce yourself. Re: Moving Forward while in neutral

I believe "creep" is just part of the way the transmission works. Even for ones that are completely rebuilt and in excellent condition. Not really a true neutral. Likewise with a certain amount of "noise" in reverse. I agree that your idle is most likely set rather high, but will most likely creep a...

Re: Varnish Over White Deck Stripes / Caulk

One question is whether you want to "show" the boat. If so, most places expect a white stripe. the surface of the pin stripe over varnish is hard. the surface of the seam compound without the varnish can be softer and somewhat porous, susceptible to dirt, discoloration, etc. But it is up to you to d...

Re: Cracked Ice Gauge Panel Treatment

Hi Brian, on another subject I see you have a l7' barrelback in the shop. can you answer the question as to whether the dash was stained dark walnut at any time during its production run? there is a thread with that question floating around here. Don A. answered the question re the 40-42 19' custom....

Re: Cracked Ice Gauge Panel Treatment

steve, we had a discussion of this about 4 years ago on the buzz. I know there is a picture in the archives of this and i recall two or three different instrument restorers chimned in. I wasnt able to find anything with a quick search but if you take the time I am sure you will find it. good luck.

Re: Boot Stripe Colors

I dont know the specific answer to this question, but you have to be careful to avoid taking Conrad totally at face value. he did a tremendous job and deserves a lot of thanks, but in some cases the information either is not accurate or maybe only partly accurate. An example as to boot stripe--he sa...

Re: Epoxy bottoms

A well cared for properly done traditional bottom will probably last longer than most of us. However, i think if you are not going that route, epoxying the whole boat is probably the way to go. are you planning to do it yourself or have it professionally done? often the professional epoxy route woul...

Re: Barrelback dashboard stain

Ok Greg. Do read the engine paint article. It was pretty thoroughly researched and I believe it included a number of the prominent restorers as part of the effort. Unfortunately, there are some , it seems, no names mentioned, who are abusive to those who disagree with them. I hope we can avoid that ...

Re: Barrelback dashboard stain

Greg, this is very well discussed in a brass bell article that don and maybe brian? wrote about 5 years ago. there are 3 colors, the darkest blue is pre-war, the somewhat lighter is post war, and the small block chevy is the lightest blue. They are also discussed here in the boat buzz, and there was...

Re: Barrelback dashboard stain

Bjorn, I just re-read the boat buzz thread "pre-war dash and panel gauge discussion in research related". In it, don ayers states that the 19 foot barrelback had a dark walnut stained dash during its entire production run from 1940-1942. I think he is the recognized expert on the barrel back. This d...
