Re: 5200 Bottom. Space planks??

Now that sounds like the very old Viking procedure for launching a lapstrake boat. Again, from the WoodenBoat magazine, in the letters to editor section. Apparently they shoved the boat off the beach and quickly shoveled ant's nests all along the waterline. The dirt fell to the bottom while the ant...

Re: 5200 Bottom. Space planks??

These runabouts (and utilities) came with 6-month warranties, and lift rings. You were told, in the owners' manual, to take the boat out of the water 'when not in use', that's why they came with lift rings. Actually, in those days before trailers and even highways, you usually had a boathouse to ha...

The most popular seam compound here in the Northeast seems to be Davis Slick Seam. It remains pliable and works well. Their websites claims "Slick Seam is an excellent underwater seam compound for wooden boats. Requires no mixing, stirring or priming. Made of wax, pure mineral products and silicate ...

Re: Buzz traffic has pick way up!!!

I would give credit for the uptick in traffic to a few factors. 1) Boat Buzz is working much better now since the migration than it did at first. That transition was very frustrating for many. Thanks for hanging in there and helping us get it right. 2) The feed on WoodyBoater is back to working the ...

Re: 5200 Bottom. Space planks??

Boat Life "Life Calk", mahogany colored, is much more like the real mahogany color. I am not suggesting to use it in place of the 5200 on the bottom, but it will work GREAT for anyplace that will show. It is also more pliable than 5200.

Happy Boating!

Hi Lynn: I am not 100% sure, but from your description it sounds like you are describing the location of a mast. Yes most of these have a "mast light" on the top and horns at the bottom. ModDSC06980.jpg CompDSC07015.jpg ModDSC07067.jpg These masts are hinged so they can be dropped down onto the deck...

Re: Deck toe rail on 16' Garwood

I have had great luck with all the Life Calk line. The mahogany color is very nice and is sand-able after curing. Be aware that Life Calk has about a 7 day cure time and needs humidity to cure. It can delay a project if you are not planning for it. Boat Life also makes a product called Life Seal tha...

This is what I get. When I click on "View image" only the image is on the screen, same size and not enlargeableBoatbuzz.jpg.
I think this is mostly because the image I put up was so small. It's only 300 X 140.

When you right click on the pic you should have a box come up that looks like this. The first option should be "Open image in new tab."

The hullside shot blows up and rotates 90 when clicked on. The three boats do nothing.
Interesting! If you right click on the three boats it will allow you to "open in a new tab".

All great advice! I am glad that you have the brushing thinner. I have done some tests myself and find that the brushing thinners are MUCH more pure than the generic "Mineral Spirits" paint thinner that you find at the hardware store. I will use "Mineral Spirits" for clean up and whipping down a san...

I had American Beauty on the market this past summer. A number of prop kickers, but not one that was interested enough to even come and look at her. :?

Then again I have decided my next one is not going to be wood, even though I LOVE them.
