KL to 283 repower

Any one have experience with repower from Straight 6 KL type motor to a 283 V8. Have 18' 1956 Continental (utility style). Pulled motor and sent to Engine shop for evaluation. I'm not holding out much hope it's economically realistic to repair. Crack in #4 cyl and milky oil. Previous owner Didn't wi...

Re: Hydraulic trans

Maybe I'm betteroff just getting a L/H rotating prop. Wonder if that will affect anything else on a 18' Continental.

Hydraulic transtran

Haven't seen yet to check rotation, but planning ahead. I would rather leave engine left rotation if thats how it spent its life: run trans in reverse ...

Have a '56 Continental, new purchase. The steering gearbox has a bit of play in it. Is there adjustment on the gearbox?

Zenith carb

Have a KL in '56 Continental. Pulling motor for rebuild and want to also rebuild carb. I've never had motor running (bought her figuring motor was bad, I was right). I don't know what model the carb is. Any help appreciated before I buy the wrong carb rebuild kit

Re: Repower or rebuild

Thanks for the input. Decided to stay with original motor. Stripping her down and sending to engine/machine shop and hope for the best. I talked to a very knowledgable boat guy in Algonac, Brian Cuthbertson, and the discussion showed the many possible gliches with a repower in a relatively small, 18...

Repower or rebuild

Have a '56 Continenal 18'. Cracked block #4 cyl. Is repower to CC 283 realistic or should I pay ridiculous price for a rebuilt KL?

KL Oil

Just bought a '56 Continental. Has KL motor. Want to change oil before I try to start it. What is the capacity? Any brand / weight
recommendations? Planning on using Quaker State High Mileage 10W30. Have run this brand in my Ford pickup for 200k miles with no problems.
