Re: KL generator to alternator swap

I bought and installed the 12V alternator from Pat Crusse. Bolted right on and worked as expected. I wound up using a thinner lockwasher (external tooth) and thicker M16-1.5 nut to get more threads on the short shaft. Use a small (not large) electric impact wrench to tighten the nut.

Re: KL generator to alternator swap

I bought the 12V alternator from Pat Crusse at Crussen Classics. Bolted right in. Single wire connection. Ammeter showed the battery charging. The fasteners for the alternator pulley didn't seem right. The supplied nut was too thin and it had a really thick lock washer. Didn't engage many threads on...

Re: Zero compression on cylinder 5

Threw a rod. When the head was off I was so tuned to watching the valves that I didn't notice that the piston wasn't moving.

Zero compression on cylinder 5

I've been struggling with bringing up a rebuilt (so I was told) KBL engine. The engine would only start with gas poured into the carbs, then ran extremely rough. I rebuilt the carbs, finally figured out the choke cable (needed a stiff return spring that wasn't there when I got it), carefully realign...

Re: Fuel leak at KBL carburetor junction

Great, this really helps. Thank you. For others that might be reading this: the fittings in the KBL Zenith carbs (90 degree) and in the triple junction are 1/8 NPT. I did some research on fuel flow and it does seem that 1/8" copper pipe would flow enough fuel for the short distance from the junction...

Fuel leak at KBL carburetor junction

When I first fired up my KBL engine (first time from rebuild), I spotted a fuel leak at the 3-way junction for the fuel lines for the triple carbs. So I dismantled everything, made sure the pipe threads were sealed, and put it back together at tight as I could get it. Still leaked. Turns out the fla...

What is this adjustment knob on water pump?

I'm getting a KBL up and running. I noticed an adjustment knob on the water pump. I've read quite a few posts here and never saw a mention about it.

What does it do and how should it be adjusted?

Re: Leak in Hercules KBL exhaust manifold

Thanks, Mike. I'll give Tom a call. I did call Jim at Fine Wood Boats. His spin on it was it was likely a freeze crack and not a rust issue. He suggested the grind and JB Weld route. Exhaust manifold leak.JPG I see that you're located in Lake Arrowhead. Did you attend the Boat Show last Saturday? I ...

Re: Leak in Hercules KBL exhaust manifold

Thanks, Mark.
That's pretty much what I was thinking, too. I did learn about stitch repair in my online research.
Won't know about the internals until pressure testing.
Who could I send this to to do the pressure testing, and if that's OK, to do the stitch weld?

Leak in Hercules KBL exhaust manifold

I recently fired up a KBL engine that had been rebuilt a while ago. I am the first one to start and run the engine with water after the rebuild. While I was fiddling with the carburetors, I was blasted by a spray of water from the exhaust manifold. I now see a rust spot where the leak is. Of course,...

Just bought the '52 Chris Craft Riviera from Riviera Wish

Hi everyone, I just joined this forum, even though I've been lurking as a reader for a while. Many have probably seen the posts of Riviera Wish (Steve) in this forum as he was restoring a '52 Riviera. I bought this boat from him about a month ago. It's a beautiful boat with the following niceties: -...
