Re: Instrument Lights 1941 18' Deluxe Utility
Thanks to all for the pics and info. Mark, you're right about not being a "purist". Sometimes I forget to remember that I'm more interested in function than form. If it was otherwise, I'd still be running a 6volt system and having to deal with hard starting. My boat's still in the water so I haven't...

Re: Instrument Lights 1941 18' Deluxe Utility
Here is a photo of the back of my dash. Newer model than yours. The middle gauge is the tach (cable not connected). On either side is the navigation light bulbs. If you follow the black wires they go to the navigation switch below. Power comes from a hidden fuse block. Mark Hi Mark, Thanks for the ...

Re: 1941 K Distributor Cap and Rotor
Thanks to all of you for replying to my previous post. Looks like I'm giving up on the Pertronix. Actually never got the engine running with it and went back to the original points. So, if anybody can give me the Napa (Echlin) part number for the points that would be greatly appreciated.

1941 K Distributor Cap and Rotor
Hello,
I have a 1941 18' Deluxe Utility with a K motor. The distributor is an Autolite IGW4149 (external capacitor). Changing over to Pertronix so don't need points and condenser, but what is the correct Napa part number for the distributor cap and rotor?
Thanks,
Al Waddell

Instrument Lights 1941 18' Deluxe Utility
My 1941 18' Deluxe Utility has an Instrument Light switch on the dash, but no wiring beyond that or any instrument lights. I know that the lights are mounted exterior of the gauges and shine through slots in the gauge housing, but there's nothing there. Can anybody help with pics or descriptions of ...

1941 18' Deluxe Utility Gauge Installation
I've just had all the gauges on my 1941 18' Deluxe Utility redone by Mark Clawson. They're beautiful! Anyway, now it's time to reinstall them. Can anybody provide guidance and/or images on running the copper tube for the water temperature gauge in the original manner in which it was installed? When ...

Re: 95hp "K" Blowby around Spark Plug
Thanks to all for their input. Found the problem. A close inspection of the #6 spark plug seat on the head revealed a fairly deep divot in the head surface where the metal gasket for the spark plug should seal against the head. Should have been caught by the machine shop when they checked the head, ...

95hp "K" Blowby around Spark Plug
Just got the engine in my '41 Chris Craft Deluxe Utility rebuilt. After rebuild it was run on the block and then water tested by the company that rebuilt the engine. When I went to run the engine the first time I noticed some staining in the new paint around the #6 spark plug. When I cranked over th...

Re: Hull Year vs year on boat title
Thanks for all the replies. Quite a learning curve here understanding how things were done before I was even born and I do appreciate all the information. Sounds like I indeed have a 1941 18' Chris Craft Deluxe Utility and that is how I will list it in the CCABC Boat Registry.

Re: Hull Year vs year on boat title
From Jim’s comment I’m leaning towards the date on the hull card being the year of the boat, not the following year that it was registered. Perhaps I’m just overthinking this entire thing since ChrisCraft just shows a range of years (1940/42) and a range of hull numbers for the
18’ Deluxe Utility.

Hull Year vs year on boat title
I just received a copy of the hull card for my 1941 Deluxe Utility, hull #81069 from the Mariners Museum. The hull card is hand dated and stamped Aug 16, 1940. The year on my state marine board registration shows 1941. So, does that mean I use 1940 as the hull year in the CCABC Boat Registry even th...
