Possible source of engine parts

You guys may already know this person, but........ I noticed a post that mentioned a Hercules auto engine and not being aware that they ever made auto engines, I looked them up on the internet. I saw that the company has gone through numerous ownership changes but is still in business. Curious, I em...

Re: Fuel pump kit question

Well the rebuild did the trick. It started right up. Not sure if it was the fuel pump or the clogged inline filter I replaced. For certain the screen in the top of the fuel pump sediment bowl was almost completely clogged, but the valves seemed OK and the diaphram although worn had no visible breaks...

Steering Wheel Restoration

I have the original black steering wheel on my 58 Cavalier. It is showing it's age with a few good cracks and a faded finish, but nothing major structurally. I am wondering what would be a good product to use to fill the cracks that is sandable and paintable. I did this once with very good results l...

Fuel pump kit question

IMG_0934.JPG I just rebuilt my fuel pump on my 58 Cavalier K engine. I want to be sure about the orientation of the valves. I believe the first picture is the correct way. I can hear the valve squeek when I suck on the carburetor side, but when I assembled the diaphram there was very little suction...

I may be buying this ladder to use on my 58 Cavalier. Can anyone show me what kind of hardware is used to install it to the boat please?

Thanks for your answer Jim about the hole in the back seat. I had missed your posting. I actually figured that one out on my own once I got a better look at it.

Re: Stupid Question(s) of the Day

Good guess, but it's much larger in diameter than that spot light plug is. It's corroded over pretty badly. I bet it was something someone added at a later time. Who knows what for.........

Re: What is this???

Jim,

The hole in mine is at about the 2 oclock position. Should I be worried about this? It certainly puts the hole a couple of inches closer to the water line. Should I plug it and drill a hole at top dead center?

Re: What is this???

Great discussion guys........ I can see the reasoning on both sides. I tend to want to keep mine if I can go through it and ensure it's clean and replace the rubber hose securely. Just where was the check valve located? Is it in the brass fitting itself? I hate to take that out and breach the stuffi...

Re: What is this???

I'm not sure if it was an add on C56. On the hull card there is an entry checked that says "self bailer" (I don't have it in front of my but I think that's the term they used. I can't imagine with a name like that it would be anything else......

Not that it matters all that much really :)

What is this???

The rubber hose connects to the small water intake under the boat, but the part that goes down inside the hull by the propeller support doesn't seem to go anywhere........

I know you guys are shaking your head in amazement, but I'll catch on some day............

Re: My First Wood Chris Craft (1958 15' Cavalier)(K Engine)

Thanks George. The spray makes yours look like blue at the bottom. I've seen so many pictures with that area painted. Even some of the literature for the new boats........ I wonder if they did them both ways??

Re: My First Wood Chris Craft (1958 15' Cavalier)(K Engine)

I'm confused. Your boat has the natural mahogany sides on the hull. So many I have seen are painted all the way up on the sides like one of the other posters noted. Mine has been painted more recently but I am trying to decide if I want to strip it to wood and make it natural. Does anyone know which...

Re: How far can you run down the gas tank??

Yeah excellent point. It would be quite a coincidence though if the fuel level just happened to expose that first hole in the pipe less than 24 hours after running it and restarting it without problems at least five times. But if it could happen to anyone it could happen to ME.......... That said, I...

How far can you run down the gas tank??

I know I'm reaching here, but after having my 58 Cavalier refuse to run the day after it ran well in my driveway, I am wondering if the gas level in the tank may be too low. It's one of the round tanks and I stuck a stick down to the lowest point of the tank. The stick had at least 4-5 inches of gas...
