Re: Iterlux #one(high gloss white)

I use Interlux #1 but not for hull paint. My hull just isn't fair enough to withstand gloss paint. I use Interlux 220 semi-gloss. I have some hoarded away. I also have Interlux 300 Silux gloss white which I like better than #1. I paint the hull every four or five years. I have Interlux 282 gray stac...

Re: zapping condensers

I had a similar experience some years ago. Without telling a long tale the problem turned out to be the contact between the condenser body (ground) and actual ground. I sanded the breaker plate area under the condenser mount to bright metal and the connection between the breaker plate and the distri...

Re: Bottom Repairs '67 35ft Corinthian

I am doing this repair with my check book. I have been engaged with a fine experienced craftsman in the area who is going to do most of the work. I did a similar job mostly myself a few years ago on the other side of the boat in roughly the same area but I learned my boatwright knew way more than I ...

Bottom Repairs '67 35ft Corinthian

I will be posting pictures and progress on the repair of the bottom on my '67 35ft Corinthian Sea Skiff. I used to say that Sea Skiffs don't rot but that has been proven to be untrue - even by myself. Not many boat wrights that know how to do the lapstrake bottom rebuild anymore. Should mke for some...

Re: Throttle control

Check the linkage first but I suspect you have an engine problem like a head gasket or burned exhaust valves. Healthy CC flat head sixes were generally set up to top out between 3000 and 3200 RPM.

Re: Hull Prep and Paint questions

A note on Sea Skiff hull painting. After about 1962 CC used paper covered plywood for the topside strakes. It gave a very nice paintable surface pretty much free of the checking that regular fir plywood was prone to. A lot of people that "stripped" their skiff hulls sanded through the paper without ...

Re: Voltage Regulator for 12 Volt Conversion

I should have answered earlier but now is the time. The 6 volt generator is a "third brush". That means the generator field gets its current from a third brush that contacts the armature commutator from a differrent location around the commutator than the power brushes that feed the electrical syste...

Re: Westerbreke hookup

The Westerbeke is designed to be free standing. It doesn't need anything else to run. But it needs to have a start/run/stop switch. I expect the Onan box is a demand start control as the early Onan and Kohler gensets would start and shut down automatically based on load demand. It could also be an a...

My '67 35' Sea Skiff Corinthian does not have engine sea cocks or strainers. My surveyor always points that out to on his periodic serveys. I just ask him to try to touch the thru-hulls. The are under the engines and not touchable.

Re: Generator not charging

The at rest voltage of a 12 volt lead acid battery is 12.6 volts at 70 deg F. Its fully charged "float" voltage is 13.6. Nominal charging voltage is between 13.8 and 14.4 volts. Above 14.4 and you will overcharge the attery and eventually destroy it.

Re: Generator Overcharging

First, is the generator one that uses a "third" brush for voltage regulation or does it use a voltage regulator in the cut-out box. The clue I see is that you show only one wire from the generator to the system. That suggest it is a "third brush" generator. The output of a "third brush" generator is...

Re: Restoration?

Those are very unusual mufflers. You've got dry exhaust going in and it looks like wet exhaust going out. They serve as exhaust risers, looks like. To replace them you'd need to find the exhaust elbows and pipe into a a "lift" muffler.

Lake St Clair can get really nasty. A 15 MPH blow from the south just piles up the surf up around the north end and river around the Old Club and Muscamoot bay. The whole area isn't friendly to small runabouts. I had a 24ft Hacker years ago and even with it length it was a "chose the day" sort of bo...

There are good engine builders all over. They might be a bit hard to find but the local hot rod shops know who they are. Yes, there are differences in engines that are from the conversion process. Find a builder that knows these. Some marinas know who these people are. You can expect a wait in line ...

Did you get a real GM 2-stroke engine tech? The GM 2-stroke engine has been out of production for several years; a victim of the EPA. There's lot of GM 2-strokers around and lots of parts but a diminishing pool of expert techs. The throttle linkage actually controls the governor. which in turn contr...

Re: Low/no oil pressure – may have dodged a bullet

I looked at your oil pressure sensing plumbing. I saw plastic tubing running to what I guess is the analog gauge. I would never trust plastic tubing that could rupture and dump the entire crank case of oil into the bilge and destroy your engine. Get metalic tubing. This isn't a hot rod.

Re: Intake manifold hot in middle, both sides

The burned paint is around what I will call the "hot well". There is a "well" (5 sided box) cast into the manifold that exhaust gas heats that is used for the automatic choke sensor. On many GM engines there is a spring inserted in this cavity that changes tension as it warms to control the choke on...
