Re: Regulators

Thanks David. I guess what I was trying to relay was that the readings were fluctuating all over the place. I think the "0" was my meters way of saying it was below the range I had set on meter. For the most part readings were jumping from 13-15 to 7-8 volts. The readings did not stabilize across rp...

Re: Regulators

Hi David. Completed test. Grounded field and tested from arm. Readings varied. Checked connections. Still up and down ranging from 15 to 7/8, 13 to zero. So fluctuating all over the place. Does this suggest generator?. When I said it tested well one week ago, it had some grease on brushes (?) That t...

Related to my regulator post - how far...

Ok, so not suggesting this is the wisest thing to do or something I would do on a regular basis, but thought I'd ask while I sort out my charging issues next week. Lets say I start out with a well charged battery. My battery is a Group 24 dual Start/Deep Cycle with 625 cranking amps, 120 reserve and...

Re: Regulators

The earlier reference to taking a charge was outside boat on a charger - should have been clearer on that. I seem to remember getting to about 12.5.

Re: Regulators

Generator is a GHW4803. All I can find on regulator is what looks to be a large "C" with an R within it. Says made in USA. Number on back is 11168.

Thanks

Regulators

Hello folks, Looking for advice. My Model K seems to enjoy going through regulators. I have a factory 12 volt AC Delco generator that has been rebuilt. Reputable shop that works with the historical vehicle clubs. It tests good as of last week. I use a 3 wire external regulator. Just put on a new reg...

Re: Remote oil filter install

If anyone is interested, I thought I'd report back. Had the boat out Sunday for extended high speed runs. All appears well. With oil cooler removed, motor maintained a temperature of 120-125 degrees at the gauge and oil lines. This is about 10-15 degrees higher than I remember from last year (I thin...

Remote oil filter install

Hi Folks, Haven’t been here in a while, but back with a request for feedback. Hope all are well and enjoying the summer. My late 50’s model K ran fairly well last summer, but I suspect I have a future date with the motor doctor. I know it has a bit of blow-by and puffs a little blue when I accelerat...

20161023_154214_resized.jpg Hello all, Ended up going with a cheap kit from SeaSense. $80 Cdn to my door. Figured they would at least work as a visual aid. To my surprise, the kit is quite robust. The PVC tubes (60 inch for my kit) are thick and quite rigid and the mount is solid. The winds were qu...

Trailer Guides

Hi Folks, Hoping people can give me some advice on trailer guides. I have a 1958 22 ft Sea Skiff. I use a bridle system to keep my boat tight to the stop when I drive it on the trailer at the ramp. That said, my ramp is a tad steep, so the back end is more or less free to wander a bit. When I retrie...

Re: Adding oil filter to a K

Thanks CC. Any recommendations on filters - do they have flow rates, microns, etc? Realize that I don't know much about the specifics of filters as I would just go and grab the one specified for the engine I was working on.

Adding oil filter to a K

Hello all, Looking for opinions/views on adding a remote oil filter to my K. I currently run straight 30 Non-Detergent. I have always wanted to try the Brad Penn oil after reading the many positive reviews here. But, I understand that it is detergent? I don't know the history of my engine, but a pre...

Thank you all!

Some good leads. Peter, I just recently found an expanded parts brochure and now see this - Ventilating Valve Assembly - seems the valve spanned a few motors.

Jim (James) - I'll connect through PM.

Re: Breather - model K

Hi All, Resurrecting this post to get some opinions. Long story short, my original PCV setup is long gone - the first page picture. A straight run pipe was installed and it ran horribly. I plugged the manifold and ran a pipe to the air intake in the interest of being up and running in the fall. Ran ...

Re: Plug preference for a K

Thanks both, I just recently learned of the benefits of the solid core wires and am looking for a local source. May stay with points for a while as I have some backups to use. Rest of ignition parts are new , including coil. The carb is a 12091, so fairly sure it has no high speed adjustable jet. Ca...

Plug preference for a K

Hello, Test runs over the weekend went really well. It was a bit harder to start towards the end of the weekend, so I pulled the plugs - they were dry, but quite sooty. Cleaned them and started better. Remembered that these were the same as used in the fall when it was running very poorly, so not su...

Re: Paragon 1XE adjustment

Thanks David, Well, a few things happened last night. In trying to get the drum held tighter in reverse so I could try to move the collar again, I found the reverse detent. Never had the shifter back far enough with enough force (and not a lot at that). So, I tried forward and found that detent just...

Thanks CC, Ok, I'll give it another try. First time doing this. Hope this is the right fix for what I was experiencing. Besides some slipping, I couldn't get the shifter to snap or detent or however its referred to. I have a tall shifter in the skiff - it would hit the bulkhead if you tried and woul...

Paragon 1XE adjustment

Hello, Last thing on my list before water test this Friday was to adjust forward gear by one notch. I had some slipping on my earlier trials. Managed to get the locking bolt out and clear (pic shows it in). I can't get the collar to turn clockwise. I have the tranny in reverse. How much effort shoul...

Hey all, It’s been effectively two years since I heard this beast run, save a forgettable experience last fall at a local mechanics. So I took her home and this is what I’ve done since then, I did a compression test and got 117-123. Encouraging. Reinstalled the manifold for a 4th time with yet anoth...
