Re: Engine Beds and Wedges
As to the material in the rods it is not yellow brass, possibly Naval or Red. All the original 1/4 carriage bolts were yellow brass. They cleaned up looking similar to gold and the rods were much darker. All my new 1/4 carriage bolts are silicon bronze, I am not using any of the original carriage bo...

Engine Beds and Wedges
I currently am restoring a 1956 21' Capri that originally was built with a Cadillac CM-300 engine. The engine beds, jpg attached, are stacked up pieces of wood. The front and back have two each mounted onto each longitudinal. The wedges are Aluminum and are a better alloy than normally found. What i...

Re: propellor shaft strut
Greg Wallace is right on except he added a 3 by a typo to the 1166. What occurs on the strut is "1166 AF". The AF stands for Algonac Foundry which is still in business. It would be interesting to have the shaft angle documented here on the Boat Buzz for various different WBs. For example my 1937 19'...

This boat is only one of three with the engine: Cadillac CM-300. What other struts have been used on these Capri...

Cadillac Powered 1956 21' Capri
Currently I am restoring hull number CP-21-144, have hull card. According to the records of the 170 Capris of this model there were only 9 delivered with the cadillac engine. Of the 9 only 3 had the CM-300 engine, 300 Hp and two four barrels. I got this boat about 20 years ago and it was all apart a...

Rabbits & Wine Stems
Although Matt's boat is finished I would like to point out that on all the pre war GWs the hull side planking rabbit is vertical along the whole chine. Doing tha rabbit with the chine off is relatively easy with a router. I have done it to two boats now. The intermediate supports scdrewed to the lon...

Dashboard throttle control
I have part of the throttle control mounted on the dash. I need information on the other parts, mainly dimensions and functional descriptions in order to fabricate. Below is a picture of the throttle control on a dash: http://s12.postimage.org/jlrs58r3d/Dash_Throttle.jpg I have the part that is atta...
