Re: Looking for Chrysler Crown M7 oil pan
You can check with Mike Murley but I believe an M2 pan will match. If so will have to modify the feed tube on the oil pickup since they used different types.

Re: 17' Lancer Help Wanted
Greg, As far as I recall, the numbers I referred to in the previous post are the pitch. I will be up at the lake this weekend so I will double check the measurement for both pitch and diameter on the props I have and get back to you. If I have time I'll try a couple different props and let you know ...

Re: Older fiberglass hull construction, better or not?
Glad to help. I used one of their colors that was really close since after almost 40 years of exposure who knows exactly what it should have been. I use Starbrite wax on it every year and it really shines. I could never get Awlgrip to shine that good. Heres a picture from last week.

Re: Older fiberglass hull construction, better or not?
I used the Epifanes 2 part poly to redo the boot and rally stripes on my Lancer about 7 years ago. It still looks as good as the day I did it and as I recall it was very easy to work with. I also had a great experience with their customer service. I used the roll and tip method. Don't recall if I th...

I've just always felt more comfortable working with epoxy paint than gel coat. You have more working time and no waste, its more forgiving and if your working in a closed environment, the fumes wont kill you.

Re: 17' Lancer Help Wanted
I use a 17 inch stainless prop on mine. I get about 4200 RPM and 40 MPH. I have a couple of original steel props, one is 19 and I think the other is 21 but I have never used them since they would be too much prop at the altitude I normally run at. (6900). If your closer to sea level try a 19. I trie...

I would definitely stay away from gel coat unless you have a proper way to mix and apply a large amount at a time since it sounds lake your covering a large area. I have used the 2 part epoxy paints on both interior and exterior applications. Easy to work with and have held up great over the years. ...

I finished the new motor and installed it back in the Lancer. Did the break- in and everything went great. Took her up to Big Bear Lake for Memorial weekend, put some hours on her breaking everything in. Taking her to the Arrowhead Show next weekend for her 45th birthday. I love this little boat and...

It could be threaded. Try holding the shaft and turning the needle gently counter clockwise. I cleaned up some gauges once that were like that.

So by time I got the heads out here and got them reconditioned, it was going to cost almost as much as a remanufactured engine ready to go and delivered to my garage door. Turned out to be a good thing because when I pulled the oil pan on the old motor there was still about an inch of milky sludge a...

Thought I'd give it one last try for anyone out there who might have a good set of Buick 225 heads before I go ahead and get a full re-manufactured motor so I can have her ready for spring. I was able to find some on line but they were in poor condition and would have cost as much to rebuild than ge...

My Dad always used it with Valpar back in the day and now I use it with Epiphanes. I also use it to remove chalk and bring color back to old colored gel coat. I apply it with a scotch brite pad and let it sit a couple days. Then wash and buff it out with 3M.

Re: 17' Lancer Help Wanted
Welcome. OMC and Volvo used the Buick 225 so you can look for parts through those outlets as well. The exhaust manifolds are different from the Chris Craft ones but they will work. You may end up having to buy a complete used engine but at least you will have everything you'll need down the road. I ...

225BVC Questions
Last weekend I was out in our 1972 17 Lancer. It has the Buick 225BVC. Engine started to lose power. I brought it to a stop and made a quick inspection. Pulled the dipstick and discovered the milky telltale of water in the oil. Pulled the boat out of the water and had my mechanic drain and flush all...

Re: De-Winterizing XK19 After Five Years
Don't forget about the outdrive. Change the oil, and check the bellows for cracks. If the outdrive was up the whole time theres a good chance it split at the bottom. Or just go ahead and get a new bellows before it becomes a big problem. I learned the hard way once. As long as its apart I would go a...

Re: Sailboat kit boat?
I had an 8 foot pram kit boat that my father built with an optional sailing rig. I was checking on another boat at the Mariners Museum once and I asked about the sailing kit. They confirmed the plans were an available option for the 8 foot pram. It's the boat I learned to sail and row in and my 88 y...

Re: Trim and Steering issues on our 19' Lancer
If you have the 280 it should have the wide flat exhaust that is built into the trim fin. There should be an ID tag attached to the top of the outdrive upper unit just in front of the cap, right in front of where the bolt came out. It will have the model and serial# on it. I took a closer look at th...

Re: Trim and Steering issues on our 19' Lancer
If you take it by a Volvo service place they can tell you right away just by looking at it. They will have the correct bolt also. The one in the picture looks like it's brass with worn threads. A new correct bolt might be all you need. The lift is another story.

Re: Trim and Steering issues on our 19' Lancer
First, That is the wrong bolt. It should be an Allen type recessed bolt that sits flush. The steering cowling it goes into must be stripped or damaged in some way and the bolt will probably keep coming out. The lift is mechanical not hydraulic. It appears someone removed all the relays and limit swi...
