Re: Where have all the True Experts Gone?
I don't think this phenom is unique to us. My other non-professional passion is vintage International Harvester 'Light Line' vehicles (Scouts, Travelalls, pickups). I see the same thing in that world. There are a couple forums that have been around for years and were hosted by the experts, and a bun...

Re: Vapor barrier under berths
Since no one else offered up thoughts, I'll do so, with the caveat that I've never owned a boat with a cabin/berths. Putting a vapor barrier like plastic anywhere is providing a spot for moisture to condense to liquid water when temperatures differ between sides of the barrier. I propose this would ...

I have a 1960 18' Continental w 283, some extra weight from a 5200 bottom. I can't comment on the appropriateness of the NiBral 1067, but I went from the stock CC prop to an Acme prop a couple years ago and love the switch to that prop. Unless you are showing the boat I would stick with a modern one...

I'll add to the confusion. My 18' 1960 Continental has one large forward facing vent on the fore deck between the lift ring and windshield. There are two (one port, one starboard) small rearward facing vents on the hullsides about at the front seat. There are two forward facing vents (one in each co...

Re: Waterproofing for canvas cover?
I've used a product called 303 Fabric Protectant with excellent results. It is recommended by Sunbrella for their fabric, and by the Boston Whaler crowd. I used it on standard canvas. It is either aqueous or alcohol based, and I applied it to the cover off the boat, but once dry it shouldn't be an i...

Most simple LEDs are either on or off, and you can't dim them. Newer bulbs for household use are dimmable however, presumable do to special circuitry. It may not be as easy as a simple dimmer, but may be do-able just be aware.

Here is a nice article on Leon Slikkers and his boat building accomplishments from the Holland Sentinal/Hope College (my alma mater) joint archives in Holland, Michigan. Re: Riviera Trailer ground Clearance
Bottom line is there is no definite answer; too many factors involved to provide one. Parameters like distance from the axle to the prop cage, trailer tongue length, height of the tow vehicle draw bar, and axle height off the ground all affect the 'attitude' of the trailer and how much ground cleara...

OOPs, reading back through the old posts, and I already posted something similar last year, sorry. Denny, I'm reading your post from July 30, in which you stated the resistance-type wires were burnt in the distributor cap and replaced with solid core. The 'burning' suggests shorting of the wires. I ...

Re: Ski Pole for a 1961 CC Ski Boat
I recently purchased a ski pylon/mount that bolts to the flywheel cover of the 283 FWF and went to install it yesterday. Looks like it could either bolt between the cover and block (which seems more sturdy) or to the forward face of the cover. The former option would require moving engine mount hole...

If no one responds, go to the directory and call/email owners of your model boat until you find one with a top and asked them to send measurements. I did this for my Continental, and they sent measurements, and pictures. Just need to have it fabricated!

Here's a thought. My wife wanted to replace our perfectly good aluminum garage doors with wooden ones. I wasn't footing that bill, but I did inquire with a painter who did faux wood finishes. Threads here show folks are sometimes interested in cotton ensigns. I recently purchased a cotton one for a project removed from my boat, but it got me thinking... when did CC switch from cotton to nylon ensigns? Was there a specific year?

Eric,
Even after a new tank, I try to use ethanol-free gasoline. There are numerous places in PA that sell it. See if one is near you:

Just a thought-- how does inserting a valve at the base of the siphon affect the overall geometry of the system? A two inch valve case would raise the whole assembly, including the pickup opening, two inches, leaving two inches of water in the bilge that can't be removed. To maintain the siphon's ef...

People either love or hate the Homelite/Bearcat, doesn't seem to be a middle ground. You are correct that the 55 hp version is a modified Crosley engine on end.
