1940 Models 150-155 GarWood

Greetings all, I've received my production varification certificate on our GarWood and it seems to have raised more questions than answers! We have a 1940 model 151 does anyone know what the difference in the 150-151-152-153-154 & 155? Tony's book says that there were 20 units made for 1940. I feel ...

Being a girl that just can't say no.... I say go for it. We've got 6 boats in various stages of repair and have completely run out of room. But still.. when I spy another, I just have to consider it!

GOOD LUCK!

I would think if she's in a dry environment, like a barn she could wait longer for the funds to come through. If the engine has been winterized and precautions are taken to keep "critters" away from her. Would be a real bummer to sell her and then get enough cash to finish her. Are there any barteri...

Steve, What an excellent idea on selling the older issues. I, like you collect boating magazines and love to go back and re-read the articles.

I'm not sure how feasible it is, but I would certainly buy.

Greetings and welcome to the Sea Skiff owner's group. We have a 1962 20 ft. Sea Skiff. She was taking on quite a bit of water at the end of last season. So this is what we did: We took out the flooring to get a good view of the hull from the inside. Then we took her down to the lake and rolled her i...

Greetings guys, I haven't been on the forum for a while. I have some old (1970's - 80's) garwood newsletters and there was mention of the caulking. Not sure what they used, but the article says pre-war the caulk was brown-not white, evidently Gar thought it was richer than the Chris Craft white. The...

Hi Guys, I'm a little late in this discussion. I absolutely LOVE the printed magazine. So much so that I just bought my dad membership to the club just so he could get the magazine. I would gladly pay more for membership to keep the magazine in my mail box. Being quite old fashioned it saddens me to...

Greetings,

Contact the Antique Boat Museum and put in a request for the hull card. I did so last year and with the response I got further info and clarification. Alas, what we thought was a 1939 was actually a 1940 model delivered January 1940.

Hi Phil,

I think we keep every one of them in business! Each for something different. I like to spread my questions around so I don't sound TOO stupid. You know, they would get to the point of seeing my caller i.d. and saying, "Oh Dear, it's Jerri again".

Greetings Dan,

If Kirby doesn't still make that color, you can send them a color chip from any brand of paint (even house paint). And they will match it. They did a really great job on a custom color for my SeaMac. And I just LOVE the way the paint flows.

Thanks guys, I'm really pleased with the restoration so far, not that it hasn't had it's share of challenges-but I sure learned a lot! The paint is a custom color: Kirby is calling it Carribean blue, it's actually lighter that the photo shows. As for Jamestown, we use them VERY often-so much so that...

Phil, Thank you so much for the update. We ordered the Makita this week, but didn't order the finess-it so your timing was perfect! I finally sanded down enough of that lifecalk so it cured and I got a coat of paint on the bare spots. I should be to coat #3 just about the time the buffer comes in. T...

Hey Alan! Got another question

Hi Alan & Faye, It was great seeing you in Hartwell last weekend. (If I get it in print, I won't forget! :rol...

Follow up. We took the boat out to the lake today and found that one major leak is in the transome, where 2 boards meet...... easy fix. Another looks like a bung has opened up. I've got a couple very small leaks in between planks. We've "sounded' the planks and they seem solid. nothing sounding off ...

GREAT information! We sistered a number of ribs last winter... rotten all the way through. It never occured to us that the ones that looked good and solid might not be. Thank you, thank you! DH ordered the fein multi-tasker and we're going to try to get most of the flooring and basketweave siding off so we can take it to the lake and watch where the water comes in. I bet we'll find more areas that need attention as we start pulling things off!

Replacing Planks

Greetings Sea Skiff experts. This winter we are going to need to replace some below the waterline planks on our skiff. I've got Don Danneberg's book and we'll be following that on how to do it. Though, does anyone out there have some special tips to make the job less challenging and the end result m...

Hi Evan, Isn't this GREAT! a forum just for us. I bet your Skiff takes Lake Michigan very well, better than a lot of other older boats out there. Ours is a 1962 20 footer that we purchased summer 2009. She is such an easy boat and, as Alan said- can take a real beating. Do you ever get down to the s...
