Re: 1977 lancer19'w/307engine

The tube from the fuel pump is a safety feature designed to flood the carburetor in the event of a diaphragm failure. It will dump fuel down the carb instead of all over your bilge.

My Avatar not working was my own doing. I tried to change it and screwed it up about a year or more ago. It just shows an empty box. Yours is now visible as they've corrected the issue. See if the Log In issue is resolved. Trading Dock is also something that did not change, so if you're having an is...

Doug We will have to look into the Avatars. I see one on your profile, but it doesn't actually show the picture. As far as logging in and out, you should have the option of "Log me in each time I visit" when you Log In. This should keep you logged in as long as you're using the same device. This wor...

After having the distributor rebuilt and timing dialed in, it ran like a fire breathing demon!

Watch the holeshot at the 1:54 mark on this video. Plenty of giddyup.

Just as an FYI, if you have a Rural King store near you, check out their price on VR1. I bought 20W-50 for $4.99/qt. This was the regular price and is a steal.

Sea Skiff Conversion

Does anyone here have a '50's 22' Sea Skiff that has been converted to a SBC(283)? Or a '59 that might have the factory 283? I would like to see the shift linkage to the manual transmission.

Are you looking for them to find the Hull Number or looking for the location to place them?

If you're looking for the Hull Number, it is stamped into various places on the boat frames. The restoration experts should be able to direct you to the usual locations.

Re: engine failure

I would look at the float setting in the carb. That could cause the bowls to run dry at said RPM's where they keep full enough to stay running at lower RPM's and would start back up fairly easily.

Re: Repowering a 1956 Continental

What is the current engine? If it is a 6 Cyl., you will need a full set up, such as a 283F. A 283 would move that boat pretty well with a Factory HP of 185. All of the marine specific parts such as the exhaust manifolds, water pumps, etc will fit on a 350 as well and look the same as the blocks were...

Here is the link to the Hull Registry. Since this a Member Maintained directory, it would only be here if someone has added it. You can order a Information Packet including the Hull Card from the Mariner's Museum, but it will not give any current information on the boat, just the original history. G...

Are they Stewart Warner gauges? If so, you must use SW senders. I got one on eBay a couple years ago and it works fine.

Re: How to install the gas tank vent

Up. If it is installed down, it will fill up and the pressure in the tank will blow it out the vent on the transom, you don't want that. It goes up to prevent the fuel level from being high enough to run out the vent. In fact, on my boat, I had to make mine go even higher, but it still spilled fuel ...

The casting number is right on the top of the flange on the Port side, above the flywheel. That will tell you with some certainty what it is. You can cross reference that number.

I was a little upset before the trip to Algonac. After messing around with the boat for almost a week, I couldn't get it to run quite right. It would run okay if I feathered the throttle, but still maxed out around 3000 RPM. I had it narrowed down to ignition, but was starting to worry about the cam...

CC used 283's in Sea Skiff's. What size, the 283 didn't show up from the factory in the 22' until 59, I believe.

You should do it, but bring the big boat. Your jet boat will get beat to death like mine did. The lake is extremely rough and built for big water boats. Re: Chris-O-Matics

Is it ATF or Hydraulic fluid? I'm not sure, but my understanding is they use a hydraulic pump to engage. I just piloted my first Crash O Matic in Algonac a few weeks ago. I see why they were called Crash O Matics, I'm just glad I wasn't trying to dock it.
