You could try Murley's Marine. He is either in Algonac or down the street in Fair Haven, MI. Mike is a pretty good source for those old parts 586-725-7446.
Good Luck

Spanco makes an aluminum adjustable gantry crane that is real nice. However it’s not cheap. Here is the link from the local rep in Michigan. This is the 2 ton version. They come from 1 to 10 tons.

"better" is a tough call, like you say it depends on where the boat is stored, does it spend more time inside or outside, ect. I went with Sunbrella but the cover had an inner layer of a flannel type mateial to protect the varnish. I trailer the boat a lot and never noticed the material was stretchi...

1965 Commander dimensions
Does anyone know the overall height of a 1965 Commander Express Hardtop? We're considering moving one via land and are wondering how difficult that will be.

Sandusky Paint Company says they supplied paint to the CC plant in Holland. They sell a number of different paints for Lyman, CC and others, including the red CC bilge paint. www.sanpaco.com Also, maybe less well know outside of the Algonac area is Kush Paint. They mic their own paints and claim to ...

Mikey, I see you are from Farmington Hills, MI. I've used Scott @ J&M Canvas for many interiors and covers. He is in Rochester Hills @ 248-852-0384. Price will vary depending on what "options" you want on the cover, ie material type, built in vents, openings for cleats, trailer tie downs, special so...

The Michigan Chapter ACBS has been putting a display in the Detroit Boat Show for a number of years. It's a pretty big deal for us, we schedule volunteers to man the booth every day. Depending on the year we've had between 30 - 80 volunteers from the chapter that go down in 3 hour shifts to man the ...

Prop size: 17' Deluxe w/ KBL
We've got a 1948 17' Deluxe with a KBL. I ran into some sunken pilings over the weekend and wrecked the prop. Our prop guy is suggesting a 12 x 12.5 w/ a cup. I believe the original prop was a standard 12.5 x 14. What prop size / performance are you getting out of your KBL in that size boat? thanks,...

I understand some of the differences between furniture, garment and automotive grade leather. In speaking with a contact at Eagle Ottawa Leather I've been told that their "automotive grade" has the highest amount of UV protection they provide, and they do provide this to the marine industry. Does an...

Don't let the details scare you off. Its just a matter of tinkering with it until you get the performance you are happy with. On the upside if you're not an "engine guy" you're never inside the engine (assuming you start with carbs that are rebuilt and the engine is in good order). The adjustments a...

We have a '48 17' Deluxe with the KBL. Tuning the carbs takes some time, but we found the best way is to use a carburetor synchronizer available from a motorcycle shop. They have 2 types – a fancy one for about $75.00 that has multiple dial indicators that can read all 3 carbs at once or basic one t...

Lancer I/B Hull speeds
If you have a CC Lancer with an I/B can you post your engine size and top speed? I've been trying differnt prop sizes on an I/B with +300 hp and whatever we do the top end is always within the same range - 36 - 40. I suspect it may be a function of the hull shape and the tunnel drive. Has anyone bee...

You could try Henry H. Smith and Co.. They've been in business in Algonac, MI not far from the old plant for over 100 years. If you just need the stock length they can supply that or if you have a different engine they'll ask for some measurements and supply you with what you need. They also do prop...

The hole with the screen on it would be the gas tank vent - but has no relation to the bilge blower. There would be small dia. tube from a fitting on the top of the gas tank to the back of the screened through hull fitting. This just allows air into the tank as the fuel is used. Yes, the T handle dr...

Yes its actually the old facility. The old plant is used for storage / parking now. There was close to 80 boats registered as of yesterday. With the good weather forecast out now we could end up with close to 90 boats. There are a lot of cruisers but there are some runabouts, a few utilities, skiffs...

So far there is about 70 boats registered for the show. The bulk of the runabouts will wait until next week to sign up - once the weather report comes out for Saturday. There should be between 80 - 90 boats along with some antique cars. The show is Saturday only. If you are thinking of entering a bo...

I have an old Chrysler engine in a 1929 24' triple. The engine is a M47-3-R. It has an Autolite distributor. Has anyone installed electronic ignition (like the PerTronix) in an engine like this? Pros? Cons? How hard was the installation? I was told that there may be a need to do some machining in th...

Another place in the US - Henry H. Smith and Co. - located about a mile from the CC plant in Algonac, MI 810-794-4222. They'll send out the shaft w/ matching coupler. They also have the records for correct prop and shaft sizes on most any model CC with orignal power.

I've seen a number of 23' Lancers with an inboard, but only 1 inboard that had a tunnel drive. Does anyone know what years / model of the Lancer I/B came with a tunnel drive - even better if you know where one is that is for sale, condition is not important.

Scott at J&M Canvas made a beautiful top for our 1929 Chris 24' (as well as our 1930 Buick Roadster). I would have to say like most artists his promise dates are rarely met, but the price is fair and the end product was worth the wait. The large part of the finished look is the proper installation w...

Custom trailer - Detroit area
In the Detroit area one of the best sources for a custom trailer would be Liberty Trailer, 313-923-6773 and talk to Dave. They produce a trailer that completely supports the boat and rides great. However be advised the one shortfall is their paint job. They paint in the same shop as they build. I ha...
