It's been many years since I've done this but you might consider the idea of using epoxy to glue your transducer to the inside of the hull bottom, the bilge. It is said the effectiveness is reduced somewhat. If it is I sure can't tell. I expect there are instructions for this available with a google...

I'm guessing you refer to DriveSavers. The procedure is still the same when you have flexible shaft couplings. They make for a .010" tolerance more acceptable. They will absorb some minor alignment variation in normal operation and will shear when the prop strikes something substantial.

There are times it has taken me two hours and other times all day. Be sure the boat has been in the water a week or more before doing the task, so the hull is prettymuch settled in all the way. Then it's adjust, check; adjust check; 'till you get it right. Ed

I do as Don does except I find that dipping the bung in varnish works well as the "glue". I use a sharp chisel running with the grain of the bung to trim it. Then, sand smooth with fine grit, stain and varnish.

A clamp-on shop light positioned near the affected areas usually helps bring the temperature up warm enough to slowly melt the affected area. Heaters designed for use in the engine room are safer and better.

A couple years ago the scrap prices were pretty high and I scrapped out two Lincoln 431's. I think I received more money in scrap value than I could sell them for use in a boat.

Big project! I expect you will have a great feeling of accomplishment when she's all done. I did extensive refurbishing on my 37' Connie and found that working indoors was very helpful.

I'm in the market for another dinghy to replace the inflatable I presently have. I'd readily buy another used 9' or 11' Whaler and set it up with Weaver brackets.

Might want to verify the accuracy of the gauges first. Mechanical gauges or electrical?

Were you able to reassemble the old impeller like a jig saw puzzle and verify that all the pieces are accounted for?
