Caulking bottom seams.
Have '56 Continental with original bottom in good shape. 'I've previously caulked bottom seams with 3m 4200. It worked fine and there was no soak needed with minimal water intrusion. Looking for something maybe a little more flexible than the 4200. Wondering what caulk others use and their experience

Re: Loud valves, adjustment needed?
I found on my KL that the best timing adjustment is made while running the boat on the lake . Run up to cruising RPM ; I like 2500 RPM; and move distributor till get Max RPM. Runs great and get 3 gal/hour fuel economy.

Re: KL convert to downdraft carb
First off, thanks for your responses. New things to try and check out. I had electronic ignition when motor first started acting up. I changed over to points and new coil. Acted up exactly the same way. I'm gonna try the fuel tank elimination and a new ignition switch. The sequence is this: Warm up ...

Re: KL convert to downdraft carb
Had carb rebuilt by Mark Edmundson here in Michigan. Ran great for 5 miles, then started acting up as before. Ever since, its been 1/4 mile, stall, starts right back up, 1/4 mile, stall.

KL convert to downdraft carb
Have a '56 KL with the stock updraft carb (263M). Rebuilt numerous times and still have stalling issue after about 1/4 mile at anything above 2000 rpm. Rebuilt fuel pump, ignition system with no change. I think maybe the carb is just wore out. I've been researching downdraft carbs. I can flip intake...

KL exteriot coolant line
Have a '56 KL. It has a coolant line that runs fron the front of cylinder head to carb mount on intake manifold and out the back to the exhaust elbow. Was told it is to warm the fuel.
I thought cold fuel was better combustion.

My Gen has a separate voltage regulator. Did some research and tried to adjust the regulator. Actually, it was quite simple with a mechanical regulator. Got the voltage steady at 14 volts.

Has anyone converted a KL motor from single updraft Zenith to a single downdraft carb? Thinking could use stock Hercules intake, just flip it over and make adapter to stand carb up straight. Having carb issues and this conversion idea keeps me thinking.

Re: KL stalling issue
The only thing common between Pertronic and points is the cap and rotor. The actions of the motor were the same.
Next time out, I'm changing out the distributor cap if it acts up again. I'm also gonna see if the carb bowl has fuel. We'll see what happens.

Have a KL (1956) which is giving me fits. It runs fine out on the lake at all speeds for a few minutes, then stalls. It will start right back up, run fine for a few minutes, then stall again. Dipstick measurement would be helpful. Supposedly, Chris went to a "shallow" oil pan in 1956. I'm trying to find depth dimension on both pans to determine what I have. Mine is about 8 1/4" (exterior rail to bottom of pan. Not having any sucess.

Have a '56 Continental with a KL motor. Specs say 6 to 10 quarts oil. Dipstick shows full, but when I drain oil (including transmission) I only get about 5 quarts. Have a KL motor in 18' Continental. It runs cold: never gets over 105 degrees. I have digital temp guage which I've checked and its accurate.
