KL convert to downdraft carb
Have a '56 KL with the stock updraft carb (263M). Rebuilt numerous times and still have stalling issue after about 1/4 mile at anything above 2000 rpm. Rebuilt fuel pump, ignition system with no change. I think maybe the carb is just wore out. I've been researching downdraft carbs. I can flip intake...

KL exteriot coolant line
Have a '56 KL. It has a coolant line that runs fron the front of cylinder head to carb mount on intake manifold and out the back to the exhaust elbow. Was told it is to warm the fuel.
I thought cold fuel was better combustion.

Re: Generator charging 15 volts
My Gen has a separate voltage regulator. Did some research and tried to adjust the regulator. Actually, it was quite simple with a mechanical regulator. Got the voltage steady at 14 volts.

Swap KL Carb to downdraft carb
Has anyone converted a KL motor from single updraft Zenith to a single downdraft carb? Thinking could use stock Hercules intake, just flip it over and make adapter to stand carb up straight. Having carb issues and this conversion idea keeps me thinking.

Have 12 volt system. New solid state regulator and point/condenser ignition. Charges around 15 volts on regular basis. Should I be worried?

Re: KL stalling issue
The only thing common between Pertronic and points is the cap and rotor. The actions of the motor were the same.
Next time out, I'm changing out the distributor cap if it acts up again. I'm also gonna see if the carb bowl has fuel. We'll see what happens.

KL stalling issue
Have a KL (1956) which is giving me fits. It runs fine out on the lake at all speeds for a few minutes, then stalls. It will start right back up, run fine for a few minutes, then stall again. I had the Pertonic ignition (Ignitor and Flamethrower coil). Thought that might be the problem, so I changed...

Is there an existing hook-up point for a vacuum guage on a KL motor? I really don't want to drill hole in intake manifold or carb. Thanks

Had an ongoing problem with very rough idle after a couple hours running. Changed over to Pertonix ignition, Flamethrower coil and Accell plug wires. Still had problem, but not as bad. Have KL with 60 hours on rebuild. Have Ignitor Electronic Ignition, Flamethrower coil and Accell ignition wires. Motor runs great at all speeds. Engine temp 115 to 120 on digital guage. Problem is after about 2 hours of cruising, the idle is very rough and won' t run under 1000 rpm no load. Carb has...

Re: KL oil quantity
Dipstick measurement would be helpful. Supposedly, Chris went to a "shallow" oil pan in 1956. I'm trying to find depth dimension on both pans to determine what I have. Mine is about 8 1/4" (exterior rail to bottom of pan. Not having any sucess.

KL oil quantity
Have a '56 Continental with a KL motor. Specs say 6 to 10 quarts oil. Dipstick shows full, but when I drain oil (including transmission) I only get about 5 quarts. I'm thinking the dipstick isn't accurate. I don't want to run motor low on oil, but also don't want to hurt the motor by overfilling. Wh...

Have a KL motor in 18' Continental. It runs cold: never gets over 105 degrees. I have digital temp guage which I've checked and its accurate. Re: Zenith 263 m carb
Solved my idling problem. I had adjusted the idle screw after engine ran for awhile, but before any load was put on motor. 1 turn out gave a nice smooth idle. Took her out today. After running for an hour or so on Lake Huron ( Gorgeous day), she would idle rough and would die when put in gear. Opene...

Have idling problem on my '56 KL with a Zenith 263M carb. When motor is cold, she idles fine. Run on the lake for an hour or so, and she won't idle under 1500 rpm. The motor runs very cool, barely gets to 100 degrees. I've rebuilt the carb with no improvement. Get her home, start up and runs fine ne...

Staining
1st time staining. Used Interlux Chris Craft Filler stain. Followed directions: thin with Interlux 333 to thick house paint consistency. Let sit for ten minutes then wiped off. In process of refinishing varnish/stain on mahogany hull. Can I use paint stripper then sand? Concerned the stripper might soak into wood and adversely affect the stain process.

18' Continental that is trailered and used regularly. Have problem with bottom paint scuffing on launch and recovery. Have indoor/outdoor carpet (LOWES). Would it be better to use "marine grade" carpet or plastic covers?
